Day 10
Salvete omnes!! Ciao!! and all those other wonderful greetings!
So after last night's crazy events, the morning started off rather quiet. It was peaceful and really nice to wake up with the sun on my pillow warming my hair and hearing Kelly and Cat amble about the kitchen area. I rolled out of bed just as Cat was going out for her run and greeted Kelly good morning. I love how small our place is. You can see and be a part of each others life and not feel like you have to be in the main room to actually socialize. It's pretty great :)
After having a mini-pear for breakfast and getting Taras his keys, Cat and I joined Kelly at a cafe down the street, which is still as lovely as it was yesterday with the flowers blooming and the warm colours sparkling in the light. I absolutely finally feel like I'm in the Rome everyone talks about, the city that people love. I don't feel unsafe here at all, confused as to how to get to my house, but safe nonetheless. So we walked down the street that's lined with cute little shops and their bright window displays to the cafe called Barnum Cafe. It was awesome!! The decor is so odd there, it's totally hipster. They have a great study area in the back and we took over the table after ordering cappuccinos. Doing Latin homework in a cafe is totally great; I get the feeling that Barnum is going to become a regular hang out place. The barista is also pretty talented; he made a butterfly on the top of my cappuccino and a flower on Cat's, plus, he played The Wombats!!! One of my all-time favorite bands :D So happy to be there when it happened! Definitely going back soon :)
As lunch rush came about, we skipped out and went back to the flat to cook. Nothing really special, just some pasta, again :P
4pm was coming around so we took off to walk to SJU. Instead of taking the metro now, I get to walk. I love walking. Plus it's sunny so I can tan, haha! No, but for real, this walk is pure GORGEOUSNESS! We get to pass by the Castel S. Angelo and kept feeling that Ewan McGregor was going to jump out from a shop and rush off into the building at any moment all Angels and Demons style. This place is soooooo cool! And we have to walk past the rows of angel statues to cross the Tiber. SO PRETTY! By far a site to see! I can't wait to get some pictures :)
Got to SJU with time to spare and met in "big group" for the first hour. We got a lecture from Jason about meter and hexameter, and it was interesting! I took so many notes! I don't know if I should add them here because it might 1) confuse non Classics peeps and 2) be boring for some. So I'll abstain from it but if you want to hear about it, I'll more than gladly type a section and place it in this post as a clickable link :) But as a super summary of it, it was all about linguistics and how brilliant Homer and Vergil were. And brilliant is an understatement. Clearly.
Afterwards we met in small groups and covered Indicative tenses of verbs in class. It was easy; Kenwon and I breezed through it. Then it was time for sub arboribus. The last sub arboribus was pretty scary. I failed miserably. But this one, with Jason as our leader, we had structure and were practicing what we had learned in the classroom that day along with set vocab (ex body parts). So we play rapid fire conjugating, Simon says, and Where's Waldo in Latin and it was pretty good. I really enjoyed what we did and I felt good when it was over. Alice also recorded us for her thesis work, which is really cool and I wish her the best of luck with it!! Hope us little Latinites create some good data!
With everyone dispersing to find food, I went with Maddie, Kelly, and Kat over to Taras' place to eat. It was so much fun! I love hanging out with everyone and seeing their places! It's so nice! Also, we watched the England vs Ukraine football game while having spaghetti and red wine, all the while talking about classical music and classical (antiquity) literature. Ah, if only every day could be like this!!
After the game, we headed back to the flat and I took a quick shower and now here I am, typing about the day that just happened! Real time, folks! It's gonna be great! Let's see how long I can keep this up ;) hahaha!
