[He takes a bit of time getting there, but finds his way into Jadis' domain. He's wearing gloves and a coat, but it still seems cold there. He shivers.]
[And Turkish Delight if he wishes, or some other sweet. Jadis brings him down into the icy interior of her fortress, to a cavernous room that offers no more warmth than the exterior did. But at least here there's a big chair covered in furs for Kay to sit in, and she presses mug of steaming cocoa into his hands.]
These days, with so few people willing to speak to me without making accusations, I could hardly let the opportunity pass to host a friendly presence.

[He notices the lack of heating even inside, but he doesn't mention anything as he doesn't want to be rude. The chair is nice, though, and he takes a sip of the hot cocoa.]
With what I've seen, I know almost everyone has done some pretty bad things at some point. I doubt your accusers are saints themselves.
[He takes another sip.]
But I prefer to leave the past behind. There's one person I'd have a hard time forgiving, but other than her I'd say everyone deserves a second chance.
They'd like the world to believe they are, though. It's so easy to justify your actions when you can convince yourself everything exists in pretty little boxes called Good and Evil, isn't it?
[She settles herself nearby on her throne and watches. Even Edward didn't display this sort of trust in her. Finally something is working out the way she wants it to.]
Yes. A second chance. That's all I ask. Tell me, what did this unforgivable person do?

I don't think good and evil is that simple.
[It helps that he's kept the company of man-eating wolves and child-killing witches before, he tends to be rather trusting.]
She took me to her fortress when I was very young, held me hostage there for...I don't know how long, but I was an adult by the time I was rescued. a few years of loneliness and terrible frostbite...That's why I have such dislike for winter.

I will keep watch for you.

H-hello?

Come inside, you'll find it more sheltered there. And we can procure you a hot drink and fur to wear.

[Mostly because Jadis doesn't intend to keep him for that long. It's a waste of space and resources to hold a prisoner for years.]
Do you know why she did it?

[He was a bit reminded of the Snow Queen incident here, but he chalked it up to irrational worry.]
Because I had shards of the Troll Mirror stuck inside me, I guess. I think that's the only reason why she picked me.

[Well, they do have something in common then. Jadis smiles to herself, and reaches out to tuck the furs more comfortably around him.]
You have friends here in the city?
Reply
[He smiles as she tucks the furs around him, taking another sip of his drink.]
Yes. The other Fables, and I've made a few new friends as well.

[She adds an extra note of lament to her voice, just for his benefit.]

Do you not have anyone who'd miss you?

No. My loyal servants did not make the journey with me, I'm afraid.
