Okay so one of my best friends here, Rainey, asked me to go to this pre-rush party at this sorority house, Kappa Omega (KO). I went, and it was freakin' strange. Okay so not so strange, but I decided that I don't like big groups of girls. Everyone was a debutante! Ahhh! Even though the girls were amazingly nice, I don't think that I could handle the sorority life. I'm much better off on my own. I'm glad I gave it a shot though...I mean, hey, don't knock it unless you've tried it. I think that's how the saying goes. If it's not, then who the fuck cares. Anyways, things have gotten better. I am a lot happier than I was before. Daniel came up this past weekend and we had a blast, had a very relaxing time. Annie and Steph came up the weekend before that, with my Dad, and the girls and I partied on Saturday night. Annie and Steph annoyed some people in the shuttle van. Steph spoke in German for like five minutes with some guy. It was amusing.
I do like Sewanee. I really do. Everyone who has visited in the past two weeks has said how they could see how I fell in love with it on my visit. I have great friends, and the place is beautiful. However, I don't know how I'm going to stand living in a rural mountain town for four years. Vacationing in the mountains is fun, living in maybe a city such as Asheville or Boone would be great, but not Sewanee, TN with two stoplights. It's so cute, but not sustainable. I need to go to Barnes and Noble. To Starbucks. To a movie theatre. Sure, the mountains and nature are great, but not living there for four years without a car.
I need to be closer to home and in civilization, that's that. I keep hearing about all of these study abroad programs that Sewanee offers during Spring Break and Summer Break, and I simply don't want to go because my time at home is so valuable and rare. If I were at Elon or Chapel Hill, I could come home any weekend I wanted to and therefore be able to go on those trips with no regrets or feelings of homesickness. I wouldn't have to be counting the days unitl I could go home. I could be able to AFFORD to go on trips abroad. Yeah. I mean, Sewanee is great, I really enjoy the friends I have made here. But, I think that I would enjoy the friends that I would make elsewhere, in particular, closer to home.
