This is really addictive and very fun. Some of you may guess who I'm playing in this game, but don't mention it here!
Welcome to Cougar Ridge, a Colorado town in the shadow of the Rockies. Population… YOU!
Ever wondered what The Sims experience would be like viewed through the lens of David Lynch? In the grand tradition of Twin Peaks and Northern Exposure, Cougar Ridge is a town that seems normal on the surface but which seethes with secrecy, salaciousness and downright oddness beneath. And all you need to do to be a part of it is to create a character and start to play!
Some of you may remember the original Cougar Ridge - an interactive game played on LiveJournal - from a couple of years back. Those who participated greatly enjoyed the experience, and now one of those players has contacted me so that we can give the project a second run. To which my answer was - Hell Yes!
If you’re interested, just head to
http://cougar_ridge_v2.livejournal.com and scroll down to the Rules and Guidelines section (it seems like a lot, but isn’t really). Then create your character (or characters - you can have up to three) and enter the game at the 'Introduce Yourselves!’ section.
You DON’T need to have played the original game to participate in the new one. However, if you want an example of gameplay, head to
http://cr_cougar_ridge.livejournal.com/932.html for the first episode of that original game (just ignore the lack of some character avatars - it was a long time ago after all!).
The real charm of Cougar Ridge is the fact that all players control their characters anonymously, meaning there are no real life cliques or animosities to spoil the experience, and giving ample opportunity for bluffs and double bluffs as storylines twist and entwine. It really is extremely simple and fun to play, and not as time-consuming as you might think (meaning those of you who are signed on for NaNoWriMo won’t find it a drain on your resources!).
Interested? Then go create your characters! We're on the third episode of the new series as of this Monday, and all subsequent episodes will be published weekly, meaning there’s plenty of opportunity to get involved. Good luck, and we’ll hope to see you about town sometime soon…
