Title: Two Men and a Beauty
Fandom: Disney's Beauty and the Beast
Words: 341
Rating: PG
Genre: Romance/Angst. Rather angsty, actually.
Summary: One doesn't know how to love her, the other doesn't think she'll ever love him. Written for disney_uberland's Mystery Double Pair-Ups.
Characters/Pairing: Belle, Beast, Gaston; Beast/Belle, one-sided Gaston/Belle
Warnings: None
Disclaimer: It is not mine. No money, etc, etc.
Author's Notes: I posted on Twitter asking for requests for a second fic for this challenge. xx_sorceress_xx wanted one-sided Belle/Gaston, chaotic8calm asked for angsty!Beast. Gaston wormed his way in here moreso than the Beast (as he is wont to do) but I hope this suffices. :)

She was the most beautiful girl in town, that was for sure. While Gaston enjoyed the company of the other girls in the village, Belle was the only one who really commanded any attention from him.

And yet, despite him trying every trick in the book, she would barely even look at him. Any other girl would be swooning by now. He was angry at her for not paying the attention he felt he was due, and he was angry at himself for seemingly losing his touch around her. And angry men often resort to desperate measures…

---

The Beast had spent so long being angry, it was difficult to stop, even when confronted with this girl who’d done absolutely nothing to him. If anything, their positions should have been reversed; she had every reason to be angry at him. Despite the frustration he felt as his servants tried to help him approach her better, he knew this was the only chance to break the curse, and he knew he’d have to try, despite the unlikelihood of anyone, let alone someone as beautiful and intelligent as Belle, ever learning to love him.

---

Gaston schemed.

---

The Beast soldiered on.

---

Gaston knew he was beaten when he heard Belle’s concerned cry of “Beast!” from over a balcony higher up. Despite the confidence in his voice when he had taunted the Beast, he was not the slightest bit confident that Belle really would choose him over the Beast. And now, he seemed to be proven right.

The initial fear of being dropped off a tower subsided, replaced with that anger he’d been feeling so much lately. Perhaps he never would have Belle for himself, but that didn’t mean he was going to let up easily. He scaled the wall behind the Beast, knife in hand.

There was a roar, and a gasp, and the Beast was pulled to safety. For Gaston, the wind whistled and pounded in his ears and he felt a strange weightlessness. Then there was a flash of pain. And then nothing.
