.....I'd have no luck at all!!
After my recent abortive attempt to see Coup being filmed and being a glutton for punishment I thought I'd have another go.
Seeing as I don't live far from Manchester and as I could sneak away from work this afternoon I thought I'd head down to the Town Hall and see what was happening.
What was happening was lots of vans and a couple of security guys stood by a side door and nobody around except me. I was surprised that there were no other 'fans' (of any of the actors) there. As I didn't want to get in anybody's way I was standing up from the door they were using when I noticed a mini van pull up and a few people spilled out. They were at least 100 yards away from me and initially I didn't pay much attention to them until I realised that one of them could well have been Charles Dance - I reached down for my camera and when I looked up there was a VERY distinctive profile turning to his right and heading into the building.
Yes - it was Rupert!!!
Sadly I only got the briefest glimpse and he was in the distance but at least I knew he was inside - and I figured all I had to do was keep waiting and when he came out...pounce!!
So I stood and waited....and waited ...and waited....and when the security guard asked me if I was waiting for somebody I told him....I told the van drivers when they asked - I even told Gabriel Byrne's driver! He told me that filming was due to finish at 7.00pm so I retired to a 'well known coffee house' to thaw out and watch proceedings. When the cars and vans started appearing again I set off back into the cold and within 15 minutes my friendly security guard came round the front of the building and - admitidly apologetically - told me that he'd just put Rupert into a car via the exit on the other side of the building!
Talk about completely gutted - I thought he could have at least given me a heads up - but he said he couldn't tell anybody until after the event (a likely tale). So very dejected and still frozen I reluctantly packed up and battled my way home.
Until the next time....
