A Real Entry.

Hi. *waves*

I've decided to stop being melodramatic and start actually talking about my summer and the incredably awesome job I have. It is freaking amazing. LOVE.

So. Here is a day in the life of Tara at SRT in Santa Rosa.

I wake up at 6:00 or 6:30 depending on what my call time is that morning. I stumble into the bathroom, hit my shins on the edge of the tub as I climb into the shower (every day, because if my legs aren't covered in multiple bruises, then it's not summer). I usually slip in the shower too, to add to the hilarity of my barely awakeness.

I eat breakfast and drink a lot of coffee. Caffine is good. For your soul. Or something. Around 7:30 or 8:00 I get in my car with whoever else is riding with me that morning and leave. I blast music and am very silent because for all intents and purposes I am still asleep. I arrive at the college. I make my way across the street to the main theatre, the Burbank, and sign in. I stare at the wall until its time to work.

First slot (we can't call it a shift becasue theatre people can't do that)is from 9:00 to 12:30. I am insantly awake and cheery. My friends stare in wonder at my abilities. The designers love me. Huzzah. We work. I usually end up hanging off something dangerous to focus or hang lights that one of the taller people would have an easier time getting, but whatever, I'm Tara. By the way, there is a wooden A frame ladder and if you don't know what that is, let me tell you it is the most terrifying thing in the world and it's on WHEELS. IT MOVES WHILE YOU ARE ON IT. EXTREME TERROR.

At 12:30 we get lunch. I eat a sandwhich. And drink a soda or out of the water fountian if I don't have 50 cents. At 1:30 it's back to work.

Second slot is from 1:30 to 5:00. We work. Durning this slot I usually injure myself by a) slamming my shins into the rungs of a ladder, b) wacking myself with the connecter on a cable, c) dropping my wrench (who has earned the name of Buffy by the way. *sings love song to wrench* onto myself in some way (usually on my shoulders so the metal digs in), or c) falling. Never all the way down, but enough to cause myself pain. If I'm lucky I drop an instrument on my foot. Hurray!

At 5:00 we are on dinner break! Two hours! I eat a rice bowl and sleep on a couch in the green room. If I'm not so sleepy I read. Or actually talk to people. Which is weird.

Anyway, back to work at 7:00. Third slot is from 7:00 to 10:30. Here is where people start acting a bit off because we are so out of or minds with tiredness that we can't think all the way straight. Last night Josh had to tell me several times how to redo some cabling because I was really slow. Sometimes, your day is over at 10:30. But if you're really lucky, you get to work graveyard. Which means you go home when you're done. We've only done graveyard once so far, got off at 12:45. OH man we were all so punch drunk. Eddie and I annoyed everyone with our antics. I ran a stop light on the way home.

So. Day in the life at SRT. And now we are a week into TECH MONTH. And everything is changing (like call and slot times...I had no dinner yesterday). People are more tired.

AND I. AM HAVING. THE TIME OF MY LIFE. (and I never felt this way before! ...) Well except for previously mentioned drama that never ends. I'm going to hang out with Josh all the time now because we are both the biggest lighting geeks ever. HUZZAH.

~Tara the Terrible

P.S. I don't get life. Ever. It escapes me.
