The moment she woke, Kouya knew that this was not where she had fallen asleep.
Once the snow had started to fall the night before, she had immediately found one of the necessities in the area and camped out there. It would not do for her to freeze to death. As a Zero unit, she understood that she was particularly susceptible to the cold, being unable to feel pain or actually, most other functions of touch either. Without pain receptors, there would be no way her body could tell her if her body temperature was too low.
And yet, Kouya had had to suppress several irrational urges to run out into the snowstorm and continue searching for her. Yamato. The cellphone hadn't worked. And Yamato herself hadn't utilized their shared bond to call to her either. The bottle of medicine that she had received from Ramona had helped control her nausea some, but Kouya's panic-attacks were still plenty and getting increasingly intense.
But no, she couldn't think about it now. She had to believe that Yamato was here somewhere. Because they were inseparable. She would find her. She definitely would.
For the moment though, Kouya took a deep breath and opened her eyes to a floor that was definitely not one that would usually be found in a cave. She had a habit of curling up sideways in her sleep, so naturally, the first thing that she would see upon waking up would be the floor. Her vision was blurry though, so she couldn't make out much more than just a few feet of floor in front of her. Her glasses were folded neatly in her line of vision and she reached forward to pick them up, when something suddenly came to her attention. The sleeping bag she was in. It was warm. But not from her body heat alone.
There was someone else here.
