It'd been some time since the music had made things...odd, and Utena was feeling more confused than she'd been in a while. Considering that she came from such an odd place to begin with, that was an impressive feat. She didn't really know how to sort out her thoughts and what had gone on with Mami, but sitting around in the large, empty dormitory she'd created with the magic dirt did not appeal to her. It made her feel restless and uneasy.
She eventually decided to head outside, hoping the blustery weather and fresh air would help clear her head. The Garden was changing to fit the season, in bits and pieces: leaves crunched beneath her sneakered feet as she walked, and she noticed that the bare branches of trees were beginning to get covered over with frost. Utena was grateful that she'd long since decided to pack away her usual biker shorts in favor of blue jeans, and that she'd traded in her elaborate uniform jacket for a more modest long-sleeved shirt and fall jacket. It was still a little chilly, but she at least wasn't freezing. Her hair had been growing out too, and instead of trimming it, she'd decided to tie it back in a loose ponytail, both for convenience, and to prevent the birds that saw fit to wake her every morning from attempting to cut it themselves. She would never quite get used to this fairy tale nonsense.
Her walking had no real direction; she preferred to wander in a meandering, aimless pace, but the wildlife other plans. Two songbirds flitted down from one of the icy branches, and with some effort, managed to undo the white hair tie holding Utena's hair.
"Oi!" she exclaimed, grabbing for the troublesome birds, but they flitted out of her reach and begin to head in another direction. Utena would have normally just left the hair tie to them, but she was frustrated by the Garden and its machinations, annoyed and tired of feeling so helpless, and so she set off after them, yelling as she went. She'd scale the tallest tree in the Gardens if that was what it took to get her ribbon back.
"Come back here!"
