She was told there'd be plenty of alcohol around, and after being treated to wine at every fancy event held in the Gardens, Prussia was thankful for straight up beer.

...And for not having to dress up, for once.

A skewer of meat in hand, she nibbled on it absently as she wondered where her date was.

After a few moments of wondering, Prussia was tapped on the back by England. She was wearing a go-go outfit, complete with dress and high boots. This was the fashion that was popular from her time-period, but England hadn't had an opportunity to wear something like it.

"You made it," she said, pleased. Since the dance, England had felt really good about their relationship, and she didn't mind showing it off to the public.

"And pass on the offer of real booze?" Prussia said around a mouthful of spiced meat. She swallowed in a show of good manner.

"You look happy," she noted, trying to puzzle the reason for England's excitement out.

"Why shouldn't I be?" England asked as she ran her finger down Prussia's arm. "I have beer, meat, and the strongest and most clever girlfriend at this party." Alright, so perhaps she was blatantly stroking Prussia's ego. But she was really happy! She meant every word, and she figured it was alright to be honest once in a while.

"You forgot 'hottest'," the meat was going so fast at this rate, but Prussia was just thankful not to have to subsist on either fruits or cake for once. At the back of her mind she had wondered whether that was what it felt like to be Austria.

Well, hottest was a given, thought England, and she closed her eyes, blushing while the smirk remained on her face. She had been trying to be positive, stay happy. She'd been thinking a lot for the past few days, and she'd come to some conclusions, but she didn't know if she was ready to ask Prussia yet. Or rather, if Prussia was ready for her to ask yet.

She finally found her own skewer of meat. Knowing what it was, she hesitated just the tiniest moment before eating it. Wasn't too bad. "I was told this barbecue was only for adults," she said as they walked. "No children allowed..."

"Not that there are too many of the little ones around," she was fond of children, but the youngest were still not young enough to feel affectionate toward. After a short while of silence, she titled her head at England, waiting patiently for the revelation that wasn't coming too quickly.

"What's on your mind, princess?" she prodded, running her fingers along the rim of her mug, "spit it out."

"Well, do you want to do something?" England asked, almost innocently, tilting her head and smiling up at Prussia. "I think our host plans on everyone having a good time." Hm, she wanted beer too. She moved to the table to find some.

They weren't close to the crowd, and so were not on the verge of having their conversation overheard by the other women.

And there was no music to drown out their talk, but Prussia hardly thought anyone was paying attention to them. Seating herself on the table as England helped herself to the beer, Prussia toyed with her naked skewer.

"Up for a drinking contest? I never did see you drunk..." she suggested mischievously.

After finding a beer and opening it, England turned and gave Prussia a curious look. "You haven't? But we've gone drinking together hundreds of times..." Her words trailed off. She wondered if their paths had not crossed in Prussia's... world. That seemed distressing.

"Hundreds of times, was it? Then I have yet to see you completely drunk. That would be a sight to see," she commented lightly, setting aside her tepid beer that had not retained the cool weather. Over the length of her stay in the Gardens Prussia had managed to overcome her distress of being from a time everyone else had moved past, but that fear was coming back again, trickling into her mind slowly.

England didn't mean to make Prussia feel uncomfortable. though she seemed to have been doing that a lot lately. "I suppose I'll show you such a thing," she said, trying to look indignant. "You should be honored. I am a lady, after all."

"It's always fun to watch those highest fall," Prussia reminded her, reaching for an unopened can next, "The more proper you are the more delightful it will be to watch you unrestrained."

For some reason, the way Prussia said that made England blush darkly. She cleared her throat and took a big swig of the beer before responding to her companion. "I suppose I shall believe the same about you. It would be nice to see you knocked off that pedestal."

That prompted a burst from genuine laughter from Prussia, interrupted only by a bout of mild choking on her drink, "Assuming I ever get drunk! And I'm not a tiny little thing like you are. I'll be fine."

"So you are only wanting to do this contest because you believe you'll best me," England said, eyebrow twitching irritably. Well, she would show Prussia! "How cowardly!"
