[She takes her teacup and sips, a slow and small smile spreading across her face.]
No, no, it's excellent. [Even if it was terrible....because Madoka made it, that still made the compliment honest.] And yes, Homura-san told me the two of you were trying your hand at baking. [a pause, something subtle in her face tightening just a fraction.] She gave me some, the other day.
[ She blinks at that, her expression falling before she smiles once more. ] ... I'm still learning, so... [ Strangely enough, or not so strangely enough, she says it as an apology. Though, she's sure that Homura's touch with their teamwork definitely made the cookies delicious. ]
[Mami sets her cup down, mind still elsewhere. She's thinking more about Homura now, what Homura has confessed- and it's most assuredly a first for her. Normally Madoka would take absolute precedence in her thoughts if it came to one or the other, given how important of a friend she is.....but things have changed. A lot of things.
Madoka is still a treasured person; she's just not the only one, anymore. Mami can no longer cling to the other girl's kindness and rely totally upon it.Just as she can't hold tight to Sayaka's mistaken perceptions of her as an idol or keep in her heart the old grudges and bitterness leveled against Homura. She must shed these desperate, painful chains of her own making if she ever wants to be truly happy.]
I'm sure they're fine, Kaname-san. Besides....I think that the effort itself is just as important as the result, mm?
[There's a subtle catch in her voice, because she's not referring to just baking anymore. Mami's spent so much wasted time trying to save people, trying to save herself- and in her eyes
( ... )
... [ Madoka notices that catch, and pauses--almost hesitating to speak up again. She didn't want to bother Mami if she didn't feel comfortable in speaking about something she wanted to keep to herself. Therefore, slowly, she only says one thing-- ]
