[text] Major's Log part 04, I beleive

Jan 19, 2011 01:07

The following logs are deeply personal, although they aren't meant to be private. If you'd rather not hear a potentially uncomfortable amount of my history, I advise you to stop reading now.

There's a large blank space, allowing you to do exactly that. )

Two years ago, I was close to another pilot. He died for our sins, as it were, and left Archer to remember him by.

He's not alone, is he?

No, he isn't. I learned a long time ago that I couldn't raise him alone. Between Sara and the Anchors, he'll be safe.

I am relieved then.

What are the 'Anchors'?

...The people who remind us that we're dreaming, and why, and what it means, and then wake us up. Most of my battles were fought in dreams.

[Curious and excited, she scribbles very quickly.]

How is it that you enter the dreams? You would not wake up? I have never had such an anchor, but it sounds like a good relationship. What are these nightmares? How long have you fought them?

That machine I mentioned was designed to give us weapons and armor, existing both in dreams and in the real world at once. It was a little more permanent when induced than when we slept.

God willing, you will never know what a Nightmare is like. Seven years fighting them was seven years too many.

I did not know there were machines that could have such an effect on dreams. Do these creatures attack only the sleeping, or have they found their way beyond that?

The war got serious when they started attacking the Wake. It took us years to strike back in dreams, where they're vulnerable - that machine was how we managed it.

I suppose war is a constant no matter where you...

As long as anyone is willing to fight for their own wants, it will be.

It seems peaceful here, for now.

God willing, it will stay that way. But I'd rather not get caught flatfooted if the worst happens.

I can't [The writing stops abruptly, still for a moment before it goes on.] even imagine what the worst would be.
