[the mirror shows the interior of an apartment, slightly darker than usual. Claire has hung curtains over the windows to deter the attention of their unwanted guests. She looks tired, though not about to collapse, at least.]I hope everyone is staying safe...please don't do anything reckless ( Read more... )

Relax, Kitty. Even if we get killed, we'll come back to life. But I won't let any monsters get you.

[She points her chin toward the window.] All those idiots are out there trying to fix the problem. One of 'em'll figure it out. [Reno's sitting on the couch, eating some chips, not worried about anything. She's not doing anyone's dirty work--well, not the dirty work of anyone present in the Gardens.]

I'm gonna be pissed if Gabe went back home before me. [But she doesn't look angry. She just yawns.] If they're gone, they're better off.

[oh, Reno. Eavesdropping, are you? She turns.]

That's not a reason to get killed in the first place. You shouldn't treat it so lightly.

You're right...I just want confirmation that they're not out there in trouble, I guess. It's more reassuring if there's no news, because that means they most likely did go home.

[she's a little worried about Veigue, too, but she says no more, fiddling with her hair a little.]

[Of course! She's a Turk.]

Why not? I keep telling you, this place ain't real. [Being already a bit divorced from reality and the consequences of actions, Reno is even more so here.]

Gabe can handle herself. I don't know about the other one. You'd probably have heard them yelling on the plant if they were getting chomped.

It feels real, and that's what matters. I'd rather not try my luck. And I'm surprised you can say such things after what happened to you. [she's tempted to poke Reno in the stomach, but that would just be mean.]

Veigue will be fine. He--she went through a lot to find me.

Eh, I've had worse than that. I told you about the time I almost lost an arm, right? That was fun. Sure, I got stabbed, but I got over it. Almost all better now. Want to see? [She gestures toward her bandages. She will remove them at the slightest provocation.]

Yeah, I don't care much about your fake brother-sister.

I saw enough when I patched you up before. [she purses her lips disapprovingly.]

I do. It would be nice if you two could get along.

But now it's healing up, you should see it again. See the fruit of your labors, right? [She laughs.]

Hey, it's her who's got to get along with me. I was here first, y'know.

I'm fine, thank you very much. [Reno stop trying to get her to take your shirt off.]

Unfortunately I've known Veigue longer than you. I can't exactly leave you on your own, since you seem to need my cooking, but I missed hi--...her.

[she shakes her head ruefully.]

She needs time to adjust, so I should stay close to her.

Are you sure? It looks pretty cool now. [No, she's going to give it another try.]

Nah, if she's from another world than you, where she's a girl, then there's another Kitty there, right? The Kitty who grew up with her as a chick. So it's not even the same person you know.

Which means, I've known you longer.

I think our definitions of "cool" are pretty different. [she lets out a breath that's halfway between a sigh and a laugh.]

Veigue is Veigue, as a man or a woman. As much as you seem to think so, it's not the body that's important. She is the person I know.

[she adds, bemused--] And it's not a contest, I promise.

Yeah, probably. [Reno laughs.] I'm starting to get that idea, Kitty. [Then a wink. But then an eyeroll.]

Kitty, she's from an alternate reality. Like chick Reeve isn't the same as my Reeve, cause different stuff happened to her. I get the whole "body doesn't matter" thing you've got going on, but she's from a whole different place and knows a whole different you.

[But then she shrugs and backpedals into nonchalance.] Not like I'm trying to compete. I don't care.

Except all of the same things happened to us. So it doesn't make sense for anything else to be different...the memories we have of each other, those are the same, as well.

Okay, Kitty, if that's what you want to think. [Another eyeroll.] We'll just ignore the whole alternate universe with another you thing. But probably something different happened. Anyway, I know guy me from the other world isn't the same as me me.

Though I bet he's definitely really hot and amazing. Hey, do you think if you had a kid with yourself, it'd be another you? Or it would turn out as some kind of horrible mutant or something?

[she's speechless for a moment, because really, where does she even start with that?]

Well, you're the one that insists being a woman or a man means you're different, so I don't think there'd be anything wrong with a child. It just seems like a strange thing to do. How do you think of these things?

I don't know. I just thought that if there was a guy version of me, I'd definitely do it with him. I use birth control, so I definitely definitely wouldn't ever have a kid, but then I was wondering, what if someone had a kid from doing it with a version of themselves?

[She sighs, then concludes:] I wish there was some guys here.

[she's so past being scandalized by this, it's almost sad. She just gives a long-suffering sigh.]

That's quite possibly the most self-centered thing you could ever do, isn't it?
