Yukari Yukamo. What a beautiful name.

[ Bit by bit, the smile turns more genuine. ]

Where do you come from?

[ She laughs, light and brief.]

I doubt it's someplace I've visited.

It's rather unlikely. It's called Gensokyo. It's a nation known as "Japan", on a planet called "Earth" if those names mean anything to you.

It sounds somewhat familiar. But it's been so long since I've been on a planet... I've only sailed by on... On my ship. The Observatory.

You're a space traveller, then?

Yes. Or I was, until I came here. I don't suppose I can still travel into space from here, is there?

There is a barrier that prevents sky travel from above a certain point.

I see. Well, I will just have to make do here. It has been a while since I've lived a terrestrial life...

[ Her expression becomes whimsical. Visiting one's home planet every 100 years, gazing upon it from space, on a small satellite... It wasn't quite the same as being there, was it? It wasn't quite the same as laying underneath that tree. ]

Gravity getting you down?

[ She chuckles. ]

Gravity works in strange ways. On some planets, it would pull me up.

My, but then you would subjectively be upside-down.

Reply

celestialmama December 6 2010, 02:07:10 UTC
Well how about gravity that pulls you sideways?

border_phantasm December 6 2010, 02:11:31 UTC
Well clearly then you have to lie down in the right direction.

Or the left.

Oh, indeed.

As long as you don't confuse left and right.

That's not terribly hard in some places. I've certainly been confused about the true direction of gravity. The universe never fails to find ways to surprise me.
