[The Queen stood at the very center of the gardens, surrounded by orchard on every side. With a smile gracing her face, she walks slowly over to the nearest tree, and touches the bark. She runs her hand up and down its rough surface, almost wistfully. And then, with only the slightest of hesitation, she leans in and kisses the tree.]

[Canada is visibly torn between being polite and WTF-ing all over the place.]

Th-that's... that's not really how autumn works, Your Majesty. I'm a bit concerned for your trees.

What's wrong with it? It looks just like autumn to me!

There wasn't even any frost. You can't expect the trees to be healthy when they go to sleep for the winter if you don't have a few nippy nights to let them get used to it first.

Well, it's not winter yet! I plan to drop the temperatures down, though, that's just part of autumn, isn't it?

The dropping of the temperatures comes first. It's a warning, to let all your nature know the seasons are changing. I do hope when you go about winter, it's not all at once like that. Your poor little animals are going to suffer.

[She's scribbling down notes.]

Well, for the time being, I'm having to do it manually. Don't worry, though. I'll ensure that the animals are kept safe and secure!

I should hope so. You've got lovely wildlife, and I wouldn't want to see gross inexperience do them harm. Hopefully winter will come smoother.

Trust me when I say you don't have to worry about the animals. The Incarnae won't let them come to harm.

Well... good. [She looks a tiny bit miffed for a moment, like she's just finishing up a lecture. Then it fades and she deflates a little, looking pensive.]

May I ask you a question?

Don't you ever get homesick, too?

Why would I? This is my home!

But has it always been your home? Or did you make it your home?

I made it, I suppose. Why do you ask?

Well, my experience with people is that they're happiest making themselves a home somewhere they want to be. It's nice here, but it's not the home we want. And... maybe some of us are homesick...

Oh, I really do sympathize. But I'm afraid I can't release you yet.
