Um... did I do it right?

[The woman on the feed doesn't really seem like much of a woman. If one concentrates, it's obvious she's around eighteen to twenty, but she holds herself like someone younger, smaller.

She reaches out, touching the vine and tentatively stroking it.]

P-please let me talk to people, Vine? [The scrolls explaining the ( Read more... )

Oh, don't worry, so long as you're nice it'll be nice and helpful right back to you!

[The unlucky girl jumps in surprise, drawing away timidly and peering at the woman on the 'screen'.]

It... oh, then am I being nice enough? That it's letting me speak?

You are. And, oh, I'm sorry to have startled you. Are you all right?

Y-yes, I'm fine. It's okay. [She still looks nervous. Sorry, Canada, she's Super Doormat.] I'm glad I'm, um, nice enough for the Vine.

[She pets the Vine gently.] Is this real?

Well, as real as anything else here, I guess. It doesn't act like a plant, of course, but it certainly seems to be one.

No, I mean... if you don't mind me asking, is this place real?

[Because it feels so much like a dream.]

Umm... It's tricky. Because it certainly feels like it's real, and it's unlikely that we're... collectively hallucinating, or something like that. But it is a little impossible to believe.

[Canada shakes her head, obviously apologetic, even if there's nothing she can do.] If anyone has, they haven't came back to report on it. There are places on the boundaries we can go to, but I was told once that if you go too far, the animals simply bring you back.

The animals bring you back?

So... they're very intelligent, then? [She wonders if the cats like to be pet...]

I wouldn't call them any more intelligent than animals from Earth- I mean, erm, if that's where you're from. I'm sure the animals are the same there. Unless they're not. [At the bottom corners of the screen, you can briefly see Canada's arms wave in a flustered flailing motion.] But anyway, these ones are just more intent on communicating with us. Most animals don't care about humans that much.

From... I'm from Earth. Are there people here who aren't?

There are, yes. Erm... as well as different versions of Earth and vastly different dates. May I ask when and where you're from?

D-different...

I-I'm from England. 1930.

A-are there really people who aren't...?

Yes, quite radically so. I'm from Canada, 1970. I know people from as far back as the 1700s and as early on as next century. Not to mention, you know, other places entirely.
