[She's let the vine approach her, not such a common occurrence these days, but it is what it is. She's sitting on a bed with her back to the room as the vine approaches, staring up at something on the wall ( Read more... )

[she studies the unfamiliar shape with curiosity. This woman must be referring to those weird flowers, but...]

Sorry, but what is that, exactly?

They're called dreamcatchers.

[Jackie has been here too long to be surprised about anyone not knowing that.]

They're supposed to help you sleep.

[By catching bad dreams, although in Jackie's case it was a matter of getting to sleep at all.]

Huh. I've never seen anything like it before. How does it help?

[she's wondering if you put it on your face or something...sometimes her mind is too scientifically-inclined.]

[She points up at it lazily.]

They don't, really. They're supposed to catch dreams in the web. It's just superstition.

[She's somewhat embarrassed with it, really, because it was stupid. She can't deny she's been sleeping though.]

Ahh. But you said it works. Is it because things are...different here?

[the type of magic she knows is practically a science, so the wishy-washy nature of things in the Garden drives her a little nutty, too.]

I don't know. Nothing makes sense here.

[Only a little bitter about that, she's been getting better about dealing with what she can't control. She had let it rattle her too deeply, and she doesn't want to be knocked down again.]

But I've been sleeping.

At least I'm not the only one who feels that way.

{she puts her chin in her hand.]

But--that's good. No one does well without sleep. [she has her own nightmares, but doesn't everyone?]

I've been here... almost nine months now. It never makes any more sense.

[God, she was going to trapped here forever.]

I'm used to not sleeping. It's bizarre to have it come so easily.

Nine months? Last I heard, six was the longest...ah, sorry.

I'd say take advantage while it lasts, then.

There are others, who have been here longer. Not so many though, they keep disappearing.

[She really expresses no emotion about that.]

...I guess. I don't really like to get used to things I know will just be taken away from me.

Disappearing...I talked to someone who said they lost a friend, but do people really vanish with no warning? Just like that?

[she frowns a little. Bit of a depressing attitude this one has.]

You think it'll stop working?

They do. Sometimes they come back, but I don't actually think that's preferable.

[If they could get out, they should stay out, instead of fucking around with Jackie's heart.]

I wouldn't be surprised, anyway.

Well, at least there's some chance of going home. Unless they actually completely disappear, which is--...

[a morbid thought. Her mouth twists a bit.]

Here's to it lasting as long as possible.

[She stares at Gal quietly for a moment.]

Which wouldn't be surprising either, is what it would be.

No need to be pessimistic...I've had enough people disappear on me.

You should probably give up talking to me if you don't want pessimistic.
