[If you have a keen nose or happen to be passing by the spaceship, if might become apparent that someone's spent the better part of the day baking with maple syrup. (Adversely, if you happen to be inside the spaceship, chances are good you've already found the freshly baked stash of maple cookies big enough to feed the Royal Canadian Air Force ( ( Read more... )

[Ukraine was out walking, exploring and taking a mental map of where everything was in relation to other things when she happened upon the Lacrosse playing Canadian. She knew it was one of her games but couldn't remember the name very well with it's odd name.]

[But she remembers her Matvey, her Canada and some of the similar bouts of depression he'd get where he'd sulk and go play hockey until her dropped. Something was certainly up with Maggie and she was determined to find out in her non-confrontational way.]

Maggie, is all okie?

[The sudden Ukrainian accent startles Canada to the point where she misses the ball, stumbling to a stop as it bounces away. Eyes wide as she looks at Ukraine, she takes a deep breath.]

Yes. Of course. Hi.

Is not good to lie to friends.

[Goes and retrieves the ball and holds it out to her with a small, concerned smile.]

What is wrong?

Thank you...

[Taking the ball, she stares at it a moment, trying to find her words.]

... I made a friend and now she's gone.

Ah, that is always hard... especially here. I em sorry, Maggie.

[Goes and places a hand gently on Canada's shoulder and giving a gentle squeeze. Most people needed comfort once someone left their life, she knew this, and wasn't going to let a version of her Canada wallow in misery.]

[Still looking down, she doesn't acknowledge Ukraine's hand, but doesn't move away. She wants comfort -- craves it -- but doesn't want to admit out loud just how much it hurts. That seems silly, like she should be so much stronger than that. But it's hard.]

It wouldn't be so bad except when Japan came back she said she didn't remember being in the Gardens when she was home, so it seems likely no one remembers things here once they leave and that's just like home, except I don't have any way to send a message to Steph so she'll just forget me forever. Everyone I care about forgets me, Ukrayina. Why do I even bother?

[She doesn't say anything for a moment before moving to hug the younger nation gently. Rubbing her back soothingly.]

It is hard, loosing someone like t'at and t'inking t'ey will forget you. But I know there are some people who won't. Dey are t'e people who matter. Like your Ukraine, I am sure he misses you and would never forget you.

T'ings here are strange, you never know, she might remember you wherever she is.

[Without hesitation, Canada drops the lacrosse stick and ball to the ground to wrap both arms tightly around Ukraine. Her hands curl into fists at the back of her shirt and she hides her face against the elder nation's shoulder, muffling her voice.]

I hope you're right. I really, really hope you're right because I... I liked her so much. More than I'd ever liked a human woman before.

[Holds Canada close and rubs her back, leaning her head gently against the other nations.]

Shhh.... will be okie. Is hard to love humans, but we still do.

It's so stupid. We all know full-well it'll never work, so why do we do it?

dewy_sunflowers May 23 2011, 05:37:23 UTC
It is, but we have human bodies and emotions so we can get attached.

[Hugs her close and sighs]

I do not know why we do it. But I know what you are going through.

[She's clinging. And sniffling, a sure-fire sign that Ukraine's shirt is going to be damp with tears.] It's not fair. Why didn't someone stop me?

I t'ink everyone wanted you to be happy. No one knew she was going to leave and why stop somet'ing that makes a person happy?

[Rubs her back, trying to be comforting in whatever way she can.She doesn't mind getting cried on at all.]

But now she's gone and I miss her and I just want to go home and forget this place ever happened.

I know, we all want to go home and we will. It is just a matter of when Maggie.

[Holds her close and pets her hair.]

It's not fair, Katyushka.

[She's still mumbling and crying against Ukraine's shoulder, but her useless emotions are short-lived around others. When she's alone, she'll let them fester for weeks, but there's only so much completely irrational crying she'll do in front of someone, even if it's just Ukraine, before she simply feels ridiculous.]
