[When the video pops up this time, there is Sora. She's sitting at the base of a tree, a strange, star-shaped fruit in hand. She's almost smiling.]...On the Islands, there's this magical fruit. And legend goes that if two or more people share this fruit, their destinies become intertwined. Because of this, the paopu fruit is almost sacred on the ( Read more... )

The magic of this place sometimes changes the things we try to create here, so I would be careful.

Such a thing, even if it does work as intended, could be abused.

[She studies the fruit. She will be certain not to eat one.]

Yeah. I'd just be careful with these. They may work like the paopu from my home, or they may not.

I will not be eating one. [She sounds very sure of that.]

I am concerned that people might consume them without being aware of what they are, as the transmission of information cannot always be relied on here, and it is possible that not everyone will receive your message, new arrivals aside.

Perhaps you should put up a notice.

...Yeah, I'll probably do that.

[She'll need to make a sign post.]

[She nods, approving.]

Practical matters aside, I don't understand how a fruit could alter one's future in such a manner.

Do we not make our own choices and write our own fate?

...That's why we're always careful. It's not so much altering as it is... solidifying your future together?

I can see why great care would need to be taken, with something so lasting.

[She's intrigued by the nature of this binding, as there is nothing like it in her world. She wonders if there is a psychoactive substance in the fruit.]

Is it one's emotions that are affected by the bond, or something else? I assume you have not eaten this fruit yourself. [She bases this assumption on Sora's comments as well as the fact that she does not seem nearly old enough to have a spouse. It would be most unwise to give a child such a fruit.]

I'm not sure...

[There's a moment of silence, and then she'll sigh.]

...I might have, when I was really little. I know we talked about it once, and Riku found a paopu... But a lot of stuff happened when we were little, and we didn't understand the power it has.

Perhaps it is simply symbolic, and it affects people's behavior because they believe in it? Or it may be a form of magic that is not yet understood.

This Riku was your-- [The words are easy enough to recall and speak, as Sora used them earlier, but Sephiroth has no appreciation for the sentiment behind them. This is an odd conversation.] --childhood sweetheart?

No! Riku was my best friend! Him and Kairi!

[Flailing now! Because, what!?]

Have I misspoken? Perhaps I misunderstood. You said you ate one as a child, and that children speak of sharing them with childhood sweethearts.

[Though she is familiar with such ideas in theory, she has little sense of their emotional significance and doesn't understand Sora's reaction.]
