This is a promising idea, Jessica, in spite of the fact that this place defies explanation in many ways. I'd be glad to help.

The basics about our situation and the uses of the soil are a good starting point. I'm concerned by the fact that some people here accept the things they see and hear as truth far too readily, so I'd include warnings about the Gardens' deceptions and dangers.

A written history of sorts could be useful, including the events experienced by those who have been here for some time. I've heard only fractured accounts of earlier events, and I'm sure there are some I'm not aware of.

Whoa, yeah, that's a really good one. Thanks.

Hmm... I could maybe see about a timeline. I don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place; there might be a pattern to look for.

I'm happy to be of assistance. [She nods, then considers what else should be included.]

Also, the nature of the animals, and of the area itself--the fact that the wilds and boundaries can cause side effects. Anything relating to the basics of survival. Though the cats do bring scrolls with information, some ignore them, and some might find such information easier to digest if it came from a human.

Perhaps the timeline should be a related project, since it might not be a good idea to provide people with too much information at once and risk overwhelming them, but that was exactly my thought. We could track the progress of events and see if any patterns emerge.

Yeah, and the scrolls aren't the most helpful things ever...

Hah, I wonder how long we're gonna be stuck here. I might be able to make a whole new library with just chronicling all the craziness around this place.

[Her tone grows wry.] No, they're rather vague, to say the least.

I'd also mention the fact that others from one's own world can appear, but that they might be from different time periods or even from slightly different alternate universes. That can be disorienting.

The Jessica Boyette Library. [Small smile.] I hope that won't be the case, but as people seem to disappear here as well as appear, perhaps we should gather a record while we can. Even if we do return home, it might help those who come after us.

Seriously? That sounds kind of... headachey.

Yeah, it's always good to keep a record, just in case. [Of anything. Ever.]

Hey, uh... you going to the, uh, dance thing?

Yes. It is unsettling.

I agree. [Another faint smile. She approves of Jessica's scientific method.]

[At Jessica's question, she pauses.] I did not initially intend to go, but yes, I will be attending. It might be a good opportunity to observe the others here, and if something odd transpires at the event, I would prefer to be there to observe it.

uh... Tifa, right? She, um... said some stuff about you.

Yeah, observation... [Of the snack table.]

Did she? What did she say? [Sephiroth sounds merely curious.]

Tifa, Aerith, and Reeve are all from my world in a sense, but from slightly different versions of it, as well as different times.

There are many people here I have not yet met, so hopefully I will be able to gather some useful intelligence from them, if nothing else.

Oh, um... Well, I don't really know if any of it's true or anything... I mean, she might just be making drama. In a really weird kind of way. Um... [fidget] Well... I mean, I don't really have any reason to believe her... [OK Jessica you are probably adding on too many disclaimers here]

She basically said you, uh, destroyed the world. Or something. She didn't really give any details or, uh, evidence.

I, um, haven't met Reeve yet. (Or Tifa, really...)

Yeah, I guess if there's one thing a dance is good for, it's talking to people. Kind of. The whole "fancy dress" thing makes it a little awkward.

[Destroyed the world. That was not what she was expecting to hear. As far as she knows, no limit to her power has been discovered, but can it really be so great? How intriguing. Not that she has any intention of doing such a thing.]

Tifa's world is similar to mine, but not the same. For instance, the Sephiroth in her world was a man. Though my gender is not a highly relevant detail, there are likely other differences as well.

[Sephiroth brightens a little.] Reeve is one of the executives from Shinra, the company SOLDIER is a part of, and as such, she is my responsibility. I have been looking after her since she arrived recently. I will be escorting her to the event. I can introduce you.

Yes. We can look at it as a way to do further research and interview more of our fellow captives. What we wear does not matter.

Yeah... I don't really trust her, anyway, but... wait, you were a man where she came from? Maybe it's a different person, then. Did she talk to you?

Escorting... y- yeah, sure, introductions would be cool.

It still feels kind of awkward. Y'know, being different and all.

I have no reason to believe anything she says. She was very hostile when we first met.

After that, we spoke again, briefly. Her dislike for this other Sephiroth colors her interpretation of my words, which makes conversing with her difficult. It's hard to say how similar I am to the Sephiroth from her world.

Reeve wished to attend the event. At first, I was dubious, but as a member of SOLDIER, I can allow no harm to come to any Shinra executive. Then I realized that it would be a good place to gather intelligence.

Being different? I do understand that, but there is no reason it should make you feel awkward.

Hm, yeah... I guess it'd probably just be better to avoid her. People like that, there's no way of talking with them without some kind of drama.

Yeah. And there's usually some good snacks and stuff. I don't know how much "intelligence" you can get at a dance, but...

It just feels like... y'know, more people are looking than usual. And the whole thing where you're supposed to dance with people and I guess hook up or something. I dunno. It's just like... I don't really know how to handle it all.

She does interest me. I would like to know more about her. So I will talk to her again, in time. [Sephiroth's curiosity will not die down so easily.]

[She frowns.] I am wary of any prepared food at a dance thrown by our captors. Knowing this place, it might not be an ordinary dance. There is no way of telling what could happen. Which does make it a good place to gather intelligence. I will also be able to speak to new people, who might have new information.

There are many people here who would ordinarily be considered unusual, so there's no need to concern yourself with that. Anyone who would treat you differently is not worth your consideration. [She's spoken to Jessica enough to know what she means by "hook up".] Are you in search of a romantic partner? I would be careful about forming such attachments here.

Well, if you're prepared to deal with it, I guess...

Oh, yeah... Well, that kind of kills my usual way of dealing with things. I guess I should try the intelligence thing, too. Assuming it's not too noisy or something.

Well, yeah, I know this is definitely an asshole filter, but I- [fjsklfjdslkfdsjkl OMG flailing time] nononono that's not- I mean, I- I'm not really... [Deep breath! Attempt to focus!]

It's not really something I, um, bother with, but... y'know, it's like the main reason for these sorts of things, and I'm there and not doing it. It just feels weird, is all. [Jessica's face: totally burning right now.]
