I'm sleeping too much lately, I'm not sure what's going on because I've made a point of getting 8+ hrs of sleep these past few nights. Gabe and I did keep an abnormal sleep schedule this weekend, but we definitely got "enough" sleep. I virtually passed out on Sunday when I got home the first chance I got. Slept all of yesterday afternoon (3-4hrs) after class despite sleeping well the night before, then slept for two hours again this afternoon and was late for work (again, slept really well the night before). I just wasted two afternoons I kind of desperately needed to work on a paper I have due tomorrow. What the fuck? I also had a similar patter last week, though I was getting somewhat less sleep at night.
I do have a thyroid deficiency which might explain it, but I got my levels checked a month ago and they're normal. What is going on here? I'm not depressed, though this afternoon I kind of "gave up" on doing work and willingly went to sleep. I love to do work on my bed in my room, but I think I've developed a sort of Pavlovian reaction to it...I think I can literally feel a surge of dopamine in my head when I imagine how a comforter feels. Ha.
Resolutions(?):
- Gonna try to go to the gym more, starting tonight. Has been on my to-do list for many reasons anyway. Maybe will reboot my sleep patterns?
- Drink more water. This I definitely don't do enough. I read somewhere that drinking water before and right after you sleep does wonders for your energy level.
- Try going to bed by midnight. Tonight. Just as an experiment. Probably unnecessary, seeing as I don't have to get up for class every day until 9:45.
- Eat better/less/differently? I think I've been making all-around healthy choices with the exception here and there, but sometimes I kind of pass out after I eat lunch (even though I'm never excessively full, as one might expect from such behavior). Definitely need to stop eating past 8, even if I'm up late studying. Teateateatea.
This is what I've eaten today:
- cup of fat free yogurt with granola before class
- 2 normal-sized slices of chicken pizza at the Soc major committee meeting at noon
- mid afternoon: bad random snacking. handful of pb puffins. a few bites of pb from the jar. yuck. that never lasts long. guess it was a pb sort of day. two bites of the butternut squash i roasted yesterday. oh, and a coke zero.
this is clearly too carby and sugary so is not healthy in general, but that still wouldn't explain why i passed out like half an hour after eating it.
not hungry now but am at work and brought a 300cal Annie's burrito to eat. do i eat? don't want to wait till later because it will be too late. want to go to the gym around 7. bah.
I just took a test on a Standford website on the Epworth Sleepiness Scale. I scored a 15, which qualifies as "Seek the advice of a sleep specialist without delay." Ohhhhhkaaaaayyy....
