Author's Notes: Spoiler for season 2, episode 11- Judas on a Pole. This is the first fic I’ve ever posted. How’d I do?
Today was his day. His. After successfully defending his PhD dissertation, Angela had offered to buy lunch, and now the Squints were gathered at their favourite diner. But he hadn’t planned on this.
Looking through the windows at the side of the diner, he could see them. Booth and Brennan, discussing something in private, always in private. They had their little secrets. Whenever he tried to uncover some of them, Booth inevitably gave him what he had dubbed the Booth look: that low, dark glare that screamed at whomever had deemed to disrupt his world that they were unwelcome. He watched as Booth reached up, cupping her face and forcing her to look up.
But today was his day. And after all, she was his professor, and he owed her… so much. And she owed him, too. After all, he passed, he changed his look, he’d even been hired on to the Jeffersonian permanently. What better way to show how smart she was, the knowledge she passed on to her students?
There was none. And now she owed him. And he would claim. In frustration, he knocked on the window separating them from him. At their look, he waved them in, watched them make their way through the door. As Booth congratulated him, slapping him on the shoulder with an open palm, Zach indicated for Brennan to precede him into the window booth, effectively trapping her between himself and the window, asking her opinion of his new look.
For now, at least, she was his.
