Last night was the Flower Booking CMJ Showcase at Northsix in Brooklyn.
The first band, Cougars, were awful. They were like a ska band that one day decided to go metal. The only thing enjoyable about their set was Keeley and Cornbread walking past me. I had no real fealling about the next band, The Life And Times.
Minus The Bear were really good. They sounded kind of like Engine Down, only with keyboards and samplers. the lead singer looked like our dear Burleigh Seaver at certain angles. That tripped me out. Awwww Burleigh. LOVEANDKITTENS4EVA. This band has a song called "Monkey!!! Knife!!! Fight!!!" and their album is called Highly Refined Pireates, which makes them awesome by default. "Bands like it when you yell 'YAR!' at them."
Then came Engine Down. I love this band. They get better and better every time I see them. Before they played their last song (a new one) Jason tried to insight a circle pit, which the hipster crowd would have no part of. The song ended with Keeley jumping off of the amp and then proceeding to grab Jonathan's ass. PBL is a beautiful thing. Oh, and Keeley had his set list written on the inside of his
wrist...HOTT.
I didn't stay for The Rocket Summer and Ted Leo because a) I had seen the band I went to see, and b) ridding the L at one in the morning sucks.
Today Jenn and I went to Ikea. I love Ikea. A lot. Seriously.
I just got back from Tompkins Square where instead of the Elliott Smith memorial, a hardcore show was going on. Too weird.
Death Cab at the Bowery in a couple hours. Love. Love. Love.
