There was never a fire

Peter Hale gets his high school sweetheart pregnant and does the "right" thing and marries her. However, she is not his Mate and during her pregnancy Peter Hale begins to sense the Soul of his Mate.

Soon after Jackson is born, wife finds out about Peter and his family being werewolves and leaves, leaving Jackson behind.

Peter begins to try and figure out who his Mate is. Only all the people who just moved into the town have been "interviewed" and Peter has nothing. But his brother, Derek's father, points out that if he started to sense his Mate it might not be because his Mate moved into town, but because they came into existence.

Fast-forward 14 years and Peter subtley eyes his son's little girlfriends and friends as possible Mates. Jackson, having been raised by the brillant Peter Hale and not neglectful adoptive parents, is still very Jackson-y but smart enough to notice what his dad is doing.

Insert Confrontation Here, in which Peter admits that his Mate might be about Jackson's age. Instead of being "What the hell, dad?" Jackson begins to introduce his father to his peers in hopes of helping his father find his Mate.

It takes two years of Jackson going through the possible canidates when Jackson accidently introduces his father to his Mate, the annoying Stiles Stilinsky. (Accidental because Jackson had just brought the ADD boy home to work on a school project, not meaning to introduce him to his dad).

Cue an awkward courtship of Peter Hale and Stiles.
