To anyone who's looking to see a movie soon, I totally recommend "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" movie. I used to read the C.S. Lewis books as a child (wayyyy back then, when I was a more avid reader) and loved them. Joel took me out to Spotlight to see that movie last night (on a date, hehe) and the scenery was amazing. I'll probably buy it when it comes out on DVD, and I hardly EVER buy DVD's, so that's saying something right there.
This morning was really cold and a little frustrating. Joel called up to our neighbors at 6:20 a.m. to ask them to move their car out of the driveway so I could go to work. I don't quite understand why we keep having issues with parking considering how nice we've been, but everytime it happens I get more and more angry at our landlord. Here's why: She *suggested* before accepting us as tenants that we refrain from getting a second car, because "there's not enough space in the driveway for everyone." However, just recently our upstairs neighbors moved out and two more moved in, adding TWO (yes, two) more cars to the driveway. If the real concern is with driveway space, not to mention fairness, why would she accept these new tenants who are only going to continue or perhaps create further problems with parking? I think I deserve to lay my head upon my pillow at night without worrying about backing the car out in the morning. Argh. One thing's for sure--it doesn't benefit anyone to read my online complaints, so we'll probably have to call the landlord again about this, and explain to her that our LEASE entitles us to a parking spot. Oy. Life.
Saturday's Dad's birthday. He'll be 49 (still young, hah)! Mike, Taylor and I have been in contact over the past couple of days to try and formulate a plan of action for Saturday night. Mike has a really great idea that holds some sentimental value, and so Taylor and I are looking for materials that we can contribute. We'll prove that it truly is possible for three broke people to make a birthday really special. :-)
In exactly ten days, Joel and I are leaving for South Africa. Some days, I'm really excited about the idea of experiencing another culture again and even summer, but other days I'm just overly anxious about the long plane rides and lines at the airports. Most of this has to do with my tendency to get sore really quick if I'm in one position for too long. This is why I'll try to sleep on the plane and walk around in the airports. That way I'm distracted from any pain I may encounter. Oh, did you all know we're flying to Paris first?! At best I'll probably get some Christmas/holiday shopping done with my limited money supply while attempting to speak the little French I learned back in high school. I've been told my accent is natural, but honestly, I don't have such a wide range of vocubulary in French. This is why I need to make friends in Paris!
I promise to take pictures. A digital camera would be real handy for this trip, but unfortunately we don't have one (yet). It could be a worthy investment, don't you think? I may even get to ride an elephant on this trip. I doubt that's something I'll get to do (or dare to do) more than once.
I'm cold, antsy and hungry (a great combination) and needing to prepare for class, so for now, stay warm and love ya!
