Well, Liz(Cozit) sent on an audition notice yesterday for a local-to-her Shakespeare group... and I haven't been doing much auditioning lately...already got a paying gig (teaching "Learning in Retirement" 'Shakespeare from the Actor's Viewpoint') during the days this spring, but nothing really challenging... so I went. Figuring, well, at least I'll get an evening of reading great lines. The Rude Mechanicals are doing MacBeth this spring, set in a post-apocalyptic world. Think "Mad Max".
The first ego boost was having the director look at me, and recognize me from faire. The second was having the assisstant look at my resume and say 'wow'. The third was a call this morning asking me to play Duncan. (The murdered king)(I'm also gonna be one of the witches, I think) You'll all be hearing more as the time passes... and I hope a number of you can all come and see it. (dates: the weekends before and after Memorial Day weekend in thier 'home theater', and the following 3 Saturdays in a separate Baltimore venue)I shall also be proselytizing among this new group of people about the Fantasy Ball... it sounds to me like they'd enjoy it.
It was also interesting that I walked into the auditions, and knew several people: I don't think I've done an audition nor a gig for years without meeting up with at least one friend. That's so cool. Just to feel like I'm finally getting to know the whole community of actors out there.
