Previous Chapter 1
Seo young has Moonbin in her arms effectively blocking Yunho from going out.
“where are you going now?”
Yunho shifts his bag, even though his duffel bag wasn’t that heavy, there is something about his mother’s glares that make him feel like a 12 year old boy.
“Not like you don’t already know” he answers back instead “Considering I am single handedly taking care of the business since you quit”
“I quit to take care of my grandson since his father doesn’t”
It was a low blow and Yunho flinched, “you know it’s not like that”
His son blinked at him, slow sleepy eyed “Da” he exclaimed reaching out his arms, Yunho lifted him up.
Moonbin snuggled contently into his shoulder as he sighed, “you know i have a flight in a few”
“Book another one” was his mother’s simple reply.
Yunho resisted the urge to sigh audibly, his mother, Changmin and everyone he knew personally intended to gang up on him with this regard, even though they were all well aware of what had happened.
Deprived his son of something precious, it was guilt. He knew the emotion well enough, having lived with it for the past 2 and a half years.
Moonbin shuffles sleepily against him, it’s seven in the morning after all.
He knew his mother well enough to know that his son had been brought out just to up his guilt, but all things considered Yunho doesn’t mind.
“I can stay for a while” he starts guiltily and is mother smiles.
.......
There noise in the background, some indefinable static that increases his heart rate. The closer he gets to the door the louder it grows, but the door is always shut.
He can feels his palms sweat, slipping off easily the metal handle yet he tries desperately to wench the door free.
The noise grows till he sits up on the bed and shuts the alarm off.
“Jae” comes Ayumi’s voice through the door, he blearily looks at his alarm to realize that it is 8 pm already, he mentally bitches about his schedule and drags himself out of bed.
Ayumi hands him a sandwich and a cup of coffee and a kiss on his cheeks “thanks for taking my shift sweetheart”
He grins blearily at her and takes a sip of his coffee and looks at Ayumi who looks worn already.
“Where is Hyun joong and Keita?” he asks.
“Not home yet” she replies easily.
Jae hates leaving Ayumi alone in the apartment, three months into the pregnancy everyone is already protective of her.
But Ayumi can take care of herself, everything said and done they were a bunch of misfits who had to make a place for themselves in the world.
Two and a half years ago he had survived a plane crash with no bodily injuries spare the head trauma so bad that he remembered nothing, to the part that only five people had survived the crash with such grave injuries that he couldn’t complain.
The road to recovery was tough, even though he spoke sufficient Japanese he couldn’t help but shake off the feeling that he didn’t quiet belong.
But no one had ever come looking for him, all that was left was a silver chain around him neck that claimed ‘love JJ forever’ but no claims, no money, no memories, just him in a land that he could not remember. The name had stuck, JJ became Jae and he did not have the heart to take in some false last name off the list of names read out.
The Airline company had given a bare reparations for the accident and then he was pushed out
into the streets to find a way on his own.
It was on his 15th job interview that a stranger stepped in, the one with thickest of lashes and a dragon tattoo curling menacingly around his bicep offered him a job at a nightclub waiter and he agreed.
Hyun joong looked menacing most of the time, but after living with him for nearly three years Jae knew that he wasn’t like most people. True that he had been forced to grow up early, but seeing the way he acted around Ayumi, Keita and now Jae he knew that the other man had a softer side.
Just as he finished the line of thought Hyun joong walked in, “oh thank God you are here” he said “I had feared you left for work leaving Ayumi alone”
Ayumi replied by whacking Hyun joong’s head “are you kidding me, I can take care of myself”
Their apartment was situated in a shady area, it was fine when Ayumi could still kick the biggest guy’s ass, but ever since her pregnancy everyone’s worries had doubled.
It was Keita who told him about Ayumi’s mother’s heart condition and the fears that her pregnancy would complicate her health further. These were the people who tool him in when he was homeless, provided him with food, water and a hug when he woke up in tears from nightmares that he couldn’t remember.
None of them had the money for the surgery and for now they hoped for the best and all Jae could do was to take in the late night shifts and help Ayumi as such.
“The night shift is a bit rough sweetheart take care” Ayumi said softly and kissed his forehead.
The club was as noisy as Yunho imagined it would be, his flavour of the night was a beautiful dark haired woman with blonde streaks, he would have left with her if it wasn’t for Changmin’s form grip on his forearms.
“you are not leaving me in some shady nightclub Hyung”
Yunho grinned unrepentantly; Changmin knew this was another form of escapism. Anonymous faces and strange places, the fact that beyond these random one night stands Yunho couldn’t bear look at anyone for more than a few hours.
Changmin had a good relationship with Victoria, she was confident funny and witty and in between their hectic schedules they found time with each other relaxing. Yet seeing Yunho in his despair Changmin never understood their love, so fierce and so gut wrenchingly awful.
He was still in college when it happened, the scarce few times he had visited Yunho and his ex husband. They had been really happy and in love then, all he remembered was that Jaejoong cooked wonderfully and then came their terrible break up.
Changmin shook is melancholic thoughts away as Yunho stiffened besides him, he followed Yunho’s line of sight to the one man Changmin never thought he would see again.
---
Jaejoong had a minor headache as the night started, he had them often enough but since his living expenses were high enough he didn’t have enough money for regular hospital trips. He settled for aspirin pills instead and started his shift.
Cherrie flirted needlessly as Jae trudged through the grinding crowds, “I hate night shifts” he bitched as another wandering hands made contact with his ass “I thought this was a straight bar”
Cherrie grinned easily as another guy tipped her heavily, with her plunging neckline and charming smiles she loved working the crowds “you are pretty Jae enjoy it while it lasts”
It was strange to think that the woman with the vivid red hair and tits almost showing was a respectable mother of two in the morning, she grinned as she pushed the shot glass towards him “for the night”
It was 2 in the morning and his head ache wasn’t lessening, the only good part was that his shift would end in two hours. He suddenly felt a strong grip on his wrist.
He sighed wearily turning back into the face of a taller man “what can I do for you sir?”
The face was unfamiliar, almond eyes and high cheekbones, there was something there like a nagging sensation at the back of his mind.
The man was still staring at him with something akin to shock, Jae couldn’t understand the feeling the overwhelming desire to get away from the man as soon as possible.
“Jaejoong” he whispered holding Jae close.
He could feel the pain increasing, his head hurting as though his brain was trying to claw it’s way out of his cranium, “No” he whispered as he let the darkness overtake him.
