Yesterday I drove a friend into town so she could meet up with HER friend who she's known on the internet for years--I opted to go along because the lady has, like, oodles of publishing contacts and my friend (B) can't drive so. It was...fine, but the lady didn't want to talk about books at all (I didn't even KNOW she's had several books published until after we'd dropped her off at the airport), she mostly wanted to show off the pictures of all the places she's been.
But she only goes for, like. A few days. Here and there. Through her mileage plan. Like, literally she was only in Alaska for a day. Or Rio, or Venice, or or or.
And she's also not...super physically capable. (Which she didn't mention to B before they met, so we didn't know to plan for it.) She had a hard time getting in and out of my van, and needs two knee replacements. So it's not like she can run around and get the most out of her stays.
It would drive me INSANE going to all those countries for so short a time. ACTUALLY INSANE. She was bragging about how she'd gone around the world in eleven days. ...WHY. The proportion of time you spent on an airplane is probably more than what you spent on the ground.
In similarly related (and much happier) travel news, IIIIIIIIIIIII AM GOING TO ICELAND! \O/ July 22nd through Aug7th, and I am really, really excited. I made a powerpoint about it to get the boys in my family amped up to go, too--Mom and I are totally on-board, Dad and Bro were mostly wandering around in bewildered circles asking 'why?'
