if the world ended today / i would adjust

Two things. Thing one is John Gorka, (rhymes with Orca), who I saw in concert last night with Eliza Gilkyson (HAAAAAMAZING). And I might do up a better rec post for them both when I have access to music, but for the time being, I give you:

THE THEME SONG OF ONE DETECTIVE DANNY WILLIAMS:

I'm from New Jersey
I don't expect too much
If the world ended today
I would adjust

I'm from New Jersey
No I don't talk that way
I watched too much TV
When I was young

I'm from New Jersey
My mom's Italian
I've read those mafia books
We don't belong

There are girls from New Jersey
Who have that great big hair
They're found in shopping malls
I will take you there

I'm from New Jersey
It's not like Texas
There is no mystery
I can't pretend

I'm from New Jersey
It's like Ohio
But even more so
Imagine that

I know which exit
And where I'm bound
The tolls on the parkway
They will slow you down

New Jersey people
They will suprise you
Cause they're not expected
To do too much

They will try harder
They may go further
Cause they never think
That they are good enough

I'm from New Jersey
I don't expect too much
If the world ended today
I would adjust
I would adjust
I would adjust

I would pay any amount of love for this to be vidded. ♥___________♥

HOW CUTE IS JOHN GORKA, GUYS? SUCH A SWEET GOOF, I DON'T EVEN. THE ARM THING? ALKJDFLAKFDJ

Thing two: Game of thrones

Today seems to be the day LJ explodes about it, which. Oooookay? Is there a new episode besides the first one out? I have things to say about this show, but I want to state the following right off the bat :

1) I will never be in this fandom
2) I will watch this show the way normal people who are not on the internet watch shows--from the periphery, not seeking out/getting into the wank and/or squee
3) The reason I'm watching this show is for my parents.
4) I will never read the books.

My folks tore through the books like hungry wolves tear through small fluffy rabbits covered in BBQ sauce. They fell in love with characters hard, had their hearts broken when characters died, got so frustrated with fictional people and practices and politics that it was amusing in a vaguely terrifying way. My mom makes rage noises every time she talks about how long she's waited for book five. Props to the author, so many props, but no fucking way am I reading the books. I have better things to do than let someone play so ruthlessly with my emotions.

That being said, I realize that from here on out, I will be constently and consistently battered over the head with SPOILERS by my parents AS THE SHOW HAPPENS. Because, if watching the first episode with them was any indication, I can expect things like this to happen.

Dad: THE WALLLLL!

Mom: THE WAAAAALLLLL!

Me: ...Very good. That is a wall.

Mom: WINTER IS COMING.

Me: What the hell are you talking about, winter looks pretty well fucking HERE.

Me: I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH MORE WINTER YOU CAN GET.

And things like Mom and Dad going "Awwwww BRAN!" and seemingly for no reason growling at Jamie, And THEN:

Bran: *pushed out the window*

Me: WHAT THE FUCK.

Mom: Don't worry! He's okay!

Me: DEFINE OKAY.

Mom: Eh, he doesn't need legs.

*facepalm*

So, just. I know the potential for wank is high, the way women are treated and just the absolute fuckwittery of everything, I want to make it clear that I'm not interested in any of that. I'm barely interested in the show. But I might bitch about it occasionally, solely for amusement purposes and primarily at the antics of my parents being as much of a dork about their show as I am about mine.

...Yup.

music, i'm sorry what is this fuckwittery?, my family: emezzin, your folk is showing, random! random! random!, game of thrones, hawaii five oh my god
