The full Moon's light streamed through
the last leaves, shedding a dancing
shadow on the ground as the wind
blew in the new chill.
I lay on the pile of crackling leaves
and looked at the stars. The leaves left above
teased me and gave me only quick
glances at the twinkling bits of light.
I rolled my eyes toward the Moon-
She was now alert, aware of me.
She had been lazy in the summer months,
large and dull, but the cooling change
had awakened her. She was lazy no more,
but truly alight, making my
presence known to every other pair of
eyes possibly lurking in the trees.
A large gust upset my pile and
swept through my sweater. I hopped up,
deciding my time outside was over.
Summer was gone and I could
no longer lull for the evening,
slowly enjoying each hour.
The cold demanded my action and
The Moon was watching.
