Tosky is my favourite word that Tanith Lee ever made up

I started a Brad/Ray story, but I have no idea where I'm going with it. I have no plot. I don't know what happens. All I know is that Brad falls in love with Ray and it starts with him being emo. *headdesk* Please don't tell me that my muse flitted down long enough to get two Gen Kill fics out of me then flitted away again! PLEASE. I need you all ( Read more... )

Wow. I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed with your honesty. It's so refreshing. Believe me, I've no room to judge anyone, because though my life hasn't been as eventful as yours by half, I've sort of gone through all the nonsense and hoopla too. People like the girl you describe are so alien to me now that I wonder if they're really that naive and innocent, or if I'm just that cynical and jaded.

It's funny, though. 17-year-old me would take one look at 24-year-old me and go, "What the shit?" And 24-year-old me would take one look at 17-year-old me and go, "Jesus, lighten up already, girlie." Or so I like to imagine. I spend a lot of time inside my own head.

Beck should write about Brad falling in love with Ray and then they learn to speak dinosaur, which is the language of love. The end.

I'm kidding. I would offer plot advice, but I can't help you much without seeing what you already have.

Beck should write about Brad falling in love with Ray and then they learn to speak dinosaur, which is the language of love. The end."Graa'ak, mrowwwrghrr?" Brad asked, softly, tilting his head to meet Ray's eyes. Ray smiled. "Arrghhbrrr. Huurrgleblaargh, arr shree'eekhlgrak." And Brad smiled back, a heavy weight lifting from his heart, and kissed him ( ... )

-cracks up at the dinosaur-speak-

Actually, I love the idea of Brad drunk dialing Ray. It's perfect, and such a neat turnabout for the pairing!

I'm honest to a fault, myself. I admit all my cock-ups and recount all the dumb shit I ever did as a teenager and in my early twenties. I'm not really proud of everything I've ever done, because when I was at my worst emotionally speaking, I hurt a lot of people. However, some stories are just too fucking good to not tell with a grin, you know? I have some pretty good accounts from when I was working at the ghetto hotel that make me laugh when I think about them now. Remind me to tell you about the Marines who got into a knife fight.

God, I know. Whenever I tell a story to someone more than four or five years younger than me, I automatically finish it with, "And that's why you should never ever do the shit I did." Maybe I should just stop telling stuff to people who are easily influenced...

Your entry is so interesting but I'm about to fall asleep here in NYC so I'll just respond to the inspiration part for now:

Beck should write about Brad falling in love with Ray and then Brad can't get a word in edgewise to tell him. So he has to show him. Possibly with song.

That is actually a really good idea. The next thing I've got in mind is Brad drunk-dialling Ray at three am to tell him how much he misses him, and I think that Ray would have a hell of a lot to say about that :D

You're probably sleeping right now, so I'm sending you happy Gen Kill dreams as a thank you!

Brad and Ray fic yay!!! It all depends where they are, like... Brad is sad and angsty, and then shit blows up, because they're in Afghanistan or Iraq or something! Brad is sad and angsty, and spends a lot of time staring at Ray's hot shirtless body while they train together at Mathilda, and Ray completely misunderstands why his best friend is looking at him funny all the time! Brad is sad and angsty and doing a stint as a dive school instructor, which sadly means hot nineteen-year-old Ray is his STUDENT - who's totally been trying to seduce HIM, because wee Ray is not innocent or naive at ALL (la la la this is the dirtywrong AU of AWESOME ok)! Brad is sad and angsty and feels threatened in his masculinity because he has FEELINGS FOR A DUDE OMG; Ray schools him on why this makes him VERY DUMB, without realising that he himself is the object of Brad's affections! Brad is sad and angsty and then the zombies attack ( ... )

Tanith is one of my very favourite authors, 'tosky' is from Biting the Sun, have you read that? It's AMAZING, but her very best novel is Silver Metal Lover, which should be required reading for everyone on the planet. Oh my god! I just realised I've never actually met another Tanith fan before. Yay ( ... )

I haven't read the Flat Earth series! I've been looking for them, though. But yeah, I loved the Claidi books a lot. Have you red the Unicorn ones? They're a lot of fun. But Biting the Sun is my second fave after The Silver Metal Lover, which is probably one of my favourite books EVER IN THE WORLD ( ... )

oh gosh I'm one of those naive and innocent little teens and while I can't say that I would have wanted live all the things you've done, I respect you so much for it. Though I don't know you and stuff :P

Fandomwise, I've never seen a Brad/Ray first meeting fic, but I guess that doens't really fit in to what you've already written? :3 <3

The funny thing is, I think I was pretty naive and innocent while I was doing all that whacky stuff, I just didn't realise it :D And everyone's life experiences count, you know? No matter what you've done, it's still what YOU'VE done, and it matters. And thank you &hearts

And yeah, my fic is set post-series, but I've always wanted to read a first meeting fic, that'd be awesome. I'm definitely putting it on my to-write list (I guess my muse hasn't abandoned me after all)

Apparently yes, there are parents that send their kids to Catholic schools and pressure them to study all the time and don't let them hang out with their friends or have a life. It boggles me, because this girl is right on the edge of rebelling and when she does it's going to be epic/awful ( ... )
