At long last, it's Beck's Awesome Guide to Generation Kill part 4 - The one with the tiny blonde Marine
(Parts one, two and three)
Ok, it's time for Walt. You guys are gonna LOVE Walt, even the ones of you who don't watch Gen Kill. Why?
That's why.
Walt is ridiculous. He is this amazing, sweet, adorable puppy of a Marine, which is awesome because as adorable/puppy-like as he is, you know that he's also a stone-badass killing machine. And that's HOT.
But yes, mainly with the adorable. This is possible the cutest moment in the entire series. There's this really crude scene where all the other guys are standng around talking smack, and then, completely seperate from that, Walt is lying there reading a letter from home. And then, looking around to make sure nobody is watching, he sniffs it. Oh my god. It is so freakin cute.
So he's the guy that rides around on the top of the humvee that Brad and Ray are in, manning the big .50 cal gun on the turret. Unfortunately, since they basically invaded Iraq with no resources whatsoever, his gun keeps jamming and fucking up, leaving him the most vulnerable member of the team. TINY BLOND WALT. :(
The thing that I love about him can be embodied in this one line of his "Just smile like it's all good!" Walt is the kind of guy that will smile and say everything is fine right up until the point where it isn't (and then it really isn't). He trundles along trying to deal with all the shit thrown at him, wearing himself into the ground until he literally snaps.
After days and days of no sleep and stress, he cracks, panics, and shoots a civillian. It's pretty heartbreaking. Brad yells at him, he goes into shock, doesn't say a word for days, refuses to carry his gun and is all round fucked up. It takes all of Ray's effort to make him smile again.
First he tries humping his head. It doesn't work, but later he acts like even MORE of an idiot and gets this:
The most beautiful smile anyone has ever given anyone else in the history of creation, and the reason there is so much Walt/Ray on the interwebs. Well, that and all the head-humpng. Feel the love, Walt!
But anyway, for most of the series Walt is just adorable. When Brad complains about getting peanut butter in his rations for ten days in a row, Walt just says, all quiet "I'm allergic to peanuts." :( When Brad is trying to get Walt to catch some sleep Walt insists on working on the jamming gun and is all "No, Brad, YOU get some sleep". He's just the most precious thing.

Travel South Crossland, R - This is one of the first fics I read in this fandom, when I still wasn't reading Brad/Nate and had pretty much run out of Brad/Ray. I'm so glad I did read it, because it is freaking amazing. Gorgeous, gorgeous damaged Walt and wonderful, hilarious, caring Ray. It's just really well written and beautiful and pretty freakin' hot, too.
Faces Don't Smile, They Just Crack, PG-13 (I KNOW, RIGHT??) - This is fluffy kissing fic. I can't believe I'm reccing it. There goes my hardcore porn rep, sigh. BUT, I can't help it because this story is so lovely it makes me want to draw hearts all over the screen. Two boys realising they like each other. <3 <3 <3
DADT, NC-17 - Yeah, this is more like it. In this tremendous story Walt is an ex gay porn star who Ray had jerked off to before they meet in the Marines. It's pretty much the best thing I've ever read, I mean, OH MY GOD. Can you IMAGINE Walt in gay porn? Yeah. ME TOO. (Interestingly, the Ray/Walt I am struggling to write is also saved under the name DADT, which is obviously for Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Sneaky)
Immediate Action, NC-17 - Too short for my liking, but it has Ray talking really dirty to Walt and being a corrupting influence, so I'll let it slide. I mean it about the dirty talking. It is awesome.
I am totally editing this to add this fic- The Marine Corps Makes you Gay and Other Theories, PG-13 (though probably more like R for a bit of dirty talk), because it is totally awesome and I just re-read it and I think it is my favourite Walt/Ray EVER. Ray pulls pigtails. Walt is not amused, until he is. LOVE.
Ok, that's all I got for now. There are heaps more Ray/Walt fics, but I never bother bookmarking and I can't be bothered trawling. These ones are great to start with. I hope you appreciate all this, by the way. Walt needs your love :P
