  • The other day I was very distressed to learn that my current favourite song, A&E by Goldfrapp, seems to be about a woman waking up in a hospital after trying to kill herself because a man has treated her badly. DAMNIT. I loved that song! I thought it was all light and airy and romantic! It's a perfect piece of music! And then I actually listened to the lyrics on the way to work, and almost started crying. IT'S REALLY, REALLY SAD, OK. Here's them playing it live. No I don't know why Alison is wearing a Napoleon hat and a giant night shirt. It's best not to ask these questions when it comes to this band. (It says a lot about how attracted I am to Alison that I'd consider doing her even in that outfit. DUDES. She's all...soft and golden and stuff. *hands*)

It's a blue, bright blue Saturday, hey, hey
And the pain has started to slip away hey, hey
I'm in a backless dress on a pastel ward that's shining.
Think I want you still
But it may be pills at work

Do you really wanna know how I was dancing on the floor?
I was trying to phone you when I'm crawling out the door
I'm amazed at you, the things you say that you don't do
Why don't you ring?

I was feeling lonely, feeling blue
Feeling like I needed you
And I've woken up surrounded by me
A&E

And the pain has started to slip away, hey, hey
I'm in a backless dress on a pastel ward that's shining
Think I want you still
But it may be pills at work

How did I get to accident, emergency?
All I wanted was you to take me out

I was feeling lonely, feeling low
Feeling like I needed you
Like I hoped you'd call and hoped you'd see me

  • I found a great article about The Silver Metal Lover on a romance website, which made me happy. Check it out. This really illustrates why I love this book so much, and why you shouldn't let the 'sci-fi' aspect turn you off. Yes, it's set in a futuristic world with robots, but it's not ABOUT being in a futuristic world. It's about love, and about growing up, and about learning to be who you are. And now I'm CRYING SOME MORE. Here's another great quote, from here: Jane is certain that Silver is more than just a machine built to please. And she will give up everything to prove it. So she escapes into the city's violent, decaying slums to embrace a love bordering on madness. Or is it something more? Has Jane glimpsed in Silver something no one else has dared to see - not even the robot or his creators? A love so perfect it mut be destroyed, for no human could ever compete?
  • More on Goldfrapp - They're playing the Palais Theatre at the end of this month, and I want to go like burning, but I'm not for two reasons - 1) no one I know is as obsessed with them as I am and I'm sick of going to gigs alone 2) the tickets are like $92. I mean, what? I saw them 4 or 5 years ago for probably half that, and it was at a more intimate venue. I'm so disappointed by this, they're one of my favourite live acts. Check out this youtube video, if you're impatient just watch the start and then from 4 minutes in. The things Alison does with her voice make me weak at the knees.
  • Damnit, now I'm just watching live Goldfrapp vids instead of doing anything productive (like blogging about Goldfrapp).
  • IT'S THE WEEKEND. Tonight I'm going to drink many Strongbows and watch random tv. Tomorrow I'm going to drink many Strongbows and watch the Saints v Collingwood game. OH GOD. GOD. WE WERE BEATON SO BADLY LAST WEEK. PLEASE DON'T LET US BE KNOCKED OUT OF THE FINALAS BY COLLINGWOOD. GOD. ARE YOU LISTENING? I MEAN IT!
  •  Ooops. Goota go get the booze.
--Cheers, Beck
