I have a goal to exercise for 100 days! I'm not sure if I want to do 100 days in a row, because that might not always be possible. But maybe just 100 days. I'm not used to exercising, so just doing 100 days might be best ( Read more... )

Work-out "rules" orodruin42 June 28 2008, 04:49:22 UTC
You may already know this... but after reading this post and your last one, I thought I'd share just in case. ;)

When you want to work out to lose fat, there are three main things to keep in mind:
1. Make sure you're breathing normally as you work out. If you're working out to burn fat, you should be able to carry on a steady conversation throughout the entire work-out.
2. It takes about 15-20 minutes for your body to start burning stored fat. Your work-outs should be at least 30 minutes in length (not that they're useless if it's less)--if you do them in the mornings before you eat breakfast, that's the best time of day for burning fat.
3. It's suggested that, if you're working out to burn off fat, you work-out 5-6 days a week.

When you find yourself becoming short of breath, that means your muscles are working anaerobically (I think that's the right term), which is actually building muscles rather than burning fat (not that that's a bad thing). Also, for muscle-building work-outs, it's advised that you limit yourself to 3-4 times a week, because your muscles need time to recover. They actually grow stronger by tearing and then repairing themselves. If you find yourself getting sore after work-outs, you may not be stretching enough. You probably stretch before hand, but it's also important to stretch after a work-out, this prevents a lot of the soreness that develops otherwise.

I'm not sure how much of this you already knew, but... I'll be happy if any of it helps. :)
