A Call Home

Okay, so I'm still massively avoiding. Whatever, I'm allowed sometimes. I'm entitled. I don't have to explain myself! I'm still in Sunnydale. I've been spending time with Anya. We're trying to come up with ways to get our money, and I'm trying to come up with ways to not be totally messed up over Gunn, and I'm doing better with the money situation ( Read more... )

"Well that's different, for a vampire," I say. "And good, very, very good that you're alive. Do you...want to talk about it?" I'm having a hard time getting a handle on her mood. She said she didn't want to talk to me, but she does seem to be staying on the line a long time. "I'd like to hear about it if you do."

I debate that. "I guess." I sigh. "It was so strange. Like, she didn't have a soul, at least I don't think so. She was wandering the place putting the worst of the loonies out of their misery, and then she started killing off the worst of the sadists on the staff."

Now that is really surprising. "Sounds like a solid plan, I remember how bad that place was," I say quietly. I'm trying to remember if I ever heard tales of an avenging vampire, but nothing pops to mind. Two hundred odd years is a long time to remember every little detail. "So what happened?"

"...I'm still not sure, actually." I say, annoyed by that fact. "It was so weird. I was stuck there forever, which sucked, I kept getting the stupid painful visions, London was watching me and she saved me and then, I had to find her doll, and it was just...I don't know. Strange. Confusing. Remind me never to be crazy."

"Her doll?" I say, incredulous. And of course it brings Dru to mind, she always had to have her dollies. "So she was a crazy vampire? Or...touched? But she helped the hopeless?" Sounded like a rough time. I kind of wish she was here so I could offer real support, but talking like this is good.

"Yeah, her weird doll. I got it for her. And I don't know. She was crazy, but...oh this is so stupid, I don't know, I can't explain it very well. She was...nice. To me, I guess. There was this orderly guy..." I shudder as I remember. "He was going to--you know what? Nevermind. Stuff. She showed up and tore him up. Literally, I might add, and she let me go. She--yeah. I guess, she did help the hopeless. Then Buffy was going to stake her, and I couldn't watch."

Damn. Even without details, I want to rip the guy apart myself. People like that just shouldn't exist. I'm glad the crazy vampire did it.

"Buffy staked her?" I echo. Doesn't seem right, a vampire like that could do a lot of good. Wouldn't Buffy see that?

"She did? But...er...I guess it didn't work out or something. She's--" I pause. I'm not sure what Angel's policy on insane vampires from the past living in his old pad would be. Whatever. "She's staying at the mansion I guess. Buffy brought her there. She showed up with this letter from this little old lady who'd been taking care of her for years or something."

"The mansion? My mansion?" We hadn't run into her, it must have been after we came back to L.A., unless she was really quiet. And huh, Buffy taking care of a crazy vampire--I guess it isn't the first time. "Well...good. I'm glad she wasn't staked. Seems like she's using her brute strength for good. But how'd she get there?" I really need to check out the mansion and meet the girl, find out just how crazy she was.

"I don't know really. I'm not sure she does either. I think it was when we were hopping back and forth through time, we must have grabbed her and dropped her somewhere else in time. I wouldn't suggest asking, London's sweet but she isn't the most coherent kid on the block." I say. Though I'm glad Angel doesn't seem upset. "Big likes for her include dolls and cake with pink frosting if you're looking to get her a housewarming gift."

I smile. She doesn't seem upset about this London being there, and Cordy has great instincts. "Dolls, huh? I'll look around. And she's erfectly welcome to stay there, I don't exactly own the place." I do really want to meet her. A vampire, without a soul, who isn't that wannabe Spike, who fights for good? Worth a visit. Seeing Cordy wouldn't be a bad thing, either.

"You'll look around?" I ask, laughing a little. "Mm. You shopping for dolls, that's got to be a sight that needs to be well documented and photographed, hung in the office for all to see." I say. "But do that. Maybe you should meet her. I could tell her you're coming if you wanted."

"I've bought lots of dolls in my time--" I start, before realizing how it sounds. I hem and haw at the idea of telling London. "Don't, I'll call first. Not sure when I can make it and I wouldn't want her to be disappointed." Dru hated being disappointed and it could get ugly. "I'll call you or Buffy first, that work?"

Before she can answer, I add, "I'm glad she saved you from...whatever."

I had been about to say something, but that cut me off. "...yeah. I know, Angel. Look, I've got to go, okay?" I say, voice softer than it's been this whole conversation. "I'll...soon. Something soon. Take care of yourself."

Her voice says volumes. At least that she doesn't hate me, that's a start.

"'Night, Cordy," I say, softly, listening to the click as she hangs up.
