Smushing
A common fanfiction convention is to smush together the names of the characters involved in a ship, for example Snarry, for Snape and Harry. Sometimes it can be fudged, for example, Harmony, for Harry and Hermione. As an aside, do any sane people actually ship these two anymore? I've seen bits of the fandom meltdown, with all those frowny teens rewriting Deathly Hallows because They Know Rowling's Characters Better. Never mind that canonically, the only H/Hr shipper is a bit of Lord Voldemort's soul. But I digress.
I posted a thread a while back in the Godawful FanFiction Forums, asking what would happen if somebody wrote badfic about your own life. This led me to my current musing--smushing names for various ships in my own life.
My name is Zoe. My boyfriend is called Drew. I suppose our smushed name would probably be Zoo. I can deal with that, it's fairly normal. What if somebody wanted to write me with my BFF, Ellen, or Anna? Zellen? Zanna? Elloe? Or the OT3 Zellanna? (Hmm, that's something I could call my first daughter, if I hate her).
Anyone who ships me with anyone, though, I think I'd prefer a bit of Zoo. Or some super-smutty Elloe, if well written :)
