(no subject)
So at work there's this guy names Clay. He's a bit of an asshole. Always making a big deal about being hard on the older boys because he doesn't think us womenfolk in aftercare can keep them in line. That kind of thing.
(And of course, the guys act worse when he's around because it's waay more fun to harass the big guy who'll put you in a headlock, than the chick who calmly ignores you unless you damage yourself or others, which you don't do because you are not actually a bad kid.)
So this Clay is quite a bit older than me, I'd guess 28-30ish, and has a little kid.
And he asked me out today.
The horror unfolded something like this:
I'm folding papers for the mailing committee between the extended care shifts. Clay hops in, says "I know you're kinda young, but.." and wants to know if I'm "doing anything tonight". I ask him what exactly he means by that. We go round and round like this for a few minutes before he leaves. I figure he's either trying to ask me to babysit, or he wants to ask me out.
He comes back. The conversation resumes. He's waay to weird about this to be asking me to babysit.
"What do you mean, exactly?"
"Do you wanna, ya know, do something? Like we could go to dinner, wash my truck-"
"Clay, are you asking me out?"
"Yes."
"I have a boyfriend."
"...And?"
"And, I'm sure I have plans."
He leaves. I think whoa, gee, that was incredibly strange and awkward. I hope I can keep a straight face when I see him again. I hope no one tells the kids or there will be choruses of the 'sitting in a tree' song for the rest of the summer.
He comes back. "So having a boyfriend, in California, removes you from the dating pool?"
"Yes."
The absolute worst bit? Earlier that morning he had his son with him and they had come into the room were I was working.
He asks his kid to "say hi to Miss Cari."
Kind hides behind him.
He says," Oh, I don't know why he does this. He only gets shy around the really cute girls."
In the course of, like a five minute conversation, this fact gets mentioned twice. What was before a perfectly innocent comment about his kid, now looks an awful lot like him using his child to hit on me.
Waay sleazy.
