Wee bit of Irish

St. Patrick's Day and I gotta wear the green! Hope you all out there remember to sport the color today.  Even if you don't think you've got a wee bit of the Irish flowing through your veins, it's fun to join in the party.  The study of psychology explains the need to belong and how it affects how we identify ourselves.  But, I can tell you as one who has been adopted, and also studied about others who have been, there is a need to know; who we really are, where we really came from. That being said, I made contact with my real mother and through her, met my real father, before I was twenty years old.

The first thing I noticed upon meeting my real mother was, "Wow, thank goodness, I don't have her chest!" However, as soon as my real dad opened his mouth and spoke, it confirmed he was my father.  Why?  His voice was coming out of a man's body, but it was my voice!  This may sound odd, but I immediately identified myself as being theirs.  No, I do not think of him as my daddy or her as my mother, we don't have that kind of relationship.  But, I know their blood is in my veins. I have come to find out, his grandmother was a full Cherokee.  My mom has Irish and Cherokee.

Over the years, I have gotten to know a little more about each of them, and I can say I have more of his personality; however, I have her, shall we say, need to control!

So, now I belong somewhere...I can pigeonhole myself - I have a wee bit of the Irish!

who are you?
