{Prologue}

The country of Japan has offered the world many wonders and she had created quite a reputation.

The rich culture, unique traditions and the alluring environment she possessed were enough reasons for Japan to be well-known all over the world.

But like other countries, she possessed within her a trade known and unique to all of her citizens, the geishas.

The Kitagawa okiya was known as one of the best, if not the best, geisha houses around the district of Akasaka in Tokyo.

Akasaka was coined the geisha district of Tokyo because it was where the beautiful, elusive men lurk around. Okiyas, teahouses and theaters were established in Akasaka for the sake of the trade.

The okiyas are where the geishas live. The teahouses and theaters are where the geishas work. The okiya is very much like a dormitory, only that the head of the house pays for his tenants’ expenses. The head of the okiya enrolls his subjects to classes that are very much needed in order for one to live the life of a geisha.

As apprentice,or maikos as they are called, each individual must attend shamisen classes, tea ceremonies, dance and singing lessons preferably at a young age.

Inside the Kitagawa okiya, a young male named Kamenashi Kazuya was being trained to be one of the best geishas. Kazuya would have not chosen this path if he had the chance but fate had been cruel to him for his life suffered a tragedy.

Back in the past, Kazuya and his family were living peacefully in the province of Kyoto. His father was the breadwinner of the family and his mother was a simple housewife. Her task was to look after her children. They were happy and satisfied with what they have. Then the unexpected happened. One day, a huge fire destroyed the area they were living in. Everyone in his family died, except him since he had gone on an errand his mother had asked of him.

The memory of such loss still haunts him today but Kazuya knew he cannot forever hold on to that. At the young age of sixteen, he had met Johnny Kitagawa whom had offered him his help in more ways than one.

In all fairness, Kitagawa-san had been fair and just. He had explained Kazuya his reasons and how Kazuya would be paying off his debts to him by being a geisha when the right time comes. With no family, shelter and food, Kazuya knew it would be better to accept the old man's offer and live life how fate designed it to be.

At sixteen, Kazuya had started helping in the okiya by running errands for their senior geishas. At times, he had also helped in preparing meals and cleaning the rooms, even polishing the wooden floors and arranging footwear in the cubby. He had also given them a hand when the seniors are wearing their kimonos or tying their obis. Johnny-san had told him about it and he was fine with it. He was also informed that he would be attending classes meant for geishas after a year of being under Johnny-san's care.

It wasn't that bad after all, Kazuya thought, since he had met along his life's journey true friends he knew he could count on.

Tatsuya Ueda was the best friend he wished to have. Although older, Kazuya had formed a bond with him like how sisters would. Tatsuya had become his roommate since they came to the Kitagawa okiya at almost the same time.

His seniors were very much caring, like Takizawa-kun and Ninomiya-kun. They were nice and very much accommodating. Kazuya missed the fun of having to talk to them since both now have their dannas and they usually stay with them.

Having to live inside the okiya was not a bad experience.

Besides, Johnny-san respected their autonomy and has asked them for opinions.

Inside the okiya, it was just like they were a big family.

But like all geisha houses, rules still apply and the responsibility of repaying the head of okiya still exists.
