Jen just reminded me of a story!
Now girls, do you remember back when you were a tween and you first started wearing a bra? And sometimes you forgot you were wearing it, and you got into the shower with the bra on and it took a few seconds for you to remember?
When I was this tween-teen age, I was very close with my friend Shushi. She and I did everything together. We dressed the same way, although we never intended it, and we went everywhere together and finished each other's sentences. People used to think we were twins, despite the complete lack of family resemblance, just because they didn't think anyone who wasn't twins could possibly share minds like that. But anyway, this particular story is set at camp ... somehow a lot of our stories are. We never really made friends at camp. I think we were either too weird or too insular. It's difficult to break in and be friends with a couple of girls who so firmly have each other. But I digress.
So this one time, we've just been out dirt biking or something and come back all muddy and wet. We ran down to the shower block to get cleaned up. The camps always had these big blocks with showers in separate cubicles. We chose two that were next to each other so we could keep talking (because it's true that teenage girls never run out of things to say, and can even speak under water). I went into my cubicle and stripped out of my shoes, socks, army camo pants, floppy black band t'shirt, and underwear, and stepped into the shower. A second later, Shushi's shower started running as well, and there we are, soaping our hair and chatting away like we haven't been together all morning doing the same thing and we need to catch up on it all.
And after seriously about three minutes, Shushi suddenly said "Oh, shit!"
I said "What?" and there was no answer. Then her shower suddenly turned off, there was a long, long pause, and the water started again. I began to giggle. "Did you get in with your bra on?"
"Sort of," she told me evasively.
I eventually discovered that she had gotten into the shower with not only her bra still on, but her underwear, camo pants, shoes and socks as well. And stood under the water for a full three minutes before she even realised.
