Shakespeare was a bard, not a nerd!

OKAY. Some of you may remember that, around this time last year, I was involved in a student production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). For those of you who don't remember...well. I was involved in this show, see. And it was awesome. There were five of us, three guys and two girls, and we did the show in our school's black box theatre, and we sold out every single night. On closing night we violated the fire code crammed thirty extra people in, and had to turn about fifty people away at the doors. We made buttloads of money! Which was promptly turned over to the theatre department at school.

Then came the summer. Sam, one of the guys in the show, and I stayed in town and hung out with each other all summer. Many conversations were had late at night, on the porch of the house where he was living, about how awesome it would be if we could take The Complete Works on the road. We talked about starting up a theatre company. We dreamed.

I moved to a different city in September.

One day Sam called me up and said, "Hey, how do you feel about doing all that stuff we talked about this summer, like, now?" And I said, "Where do I sign up?"

Thus began our theatre company, The Essential Players. We're non-profit (it's theatre; quite honestly, we're just hoping to break even), and we're young, and we're awesome, and we're doing The Complete Works show in May. You can get tickets here. The show runs May 11 and 12, and then the 16th-19th as well. Tickets are $12 for students and $15 for everyone else.

This show is hilarious. In an hour and a half we cover all of Shakespeare's plays; we even throw in the sonnets in for free. Othello is done as a rap! There are puffy pants! Rubber chickens! Sword-fights and pop culture references! Kevin, who has a very stunning goatee, plays all the girls! It is HILARIOUS and AWESOME and you should ALL BUY A TICKET and come see it. I personally guarantee that you will have a good time. Hell, if you don't, I will take you out for a drink afterward.

We've put a lot of hard work and effort and money into this show, and this company. It would mean the world to me if you all told everyone you know in Southwestern Ontario to come see this show. It would also make me happier than PIE if you came out to see it yourselves. I know that, obviously, not all of you will be able to make it -- and, honestly, there are only 65 seats in the theatre, so it'd be a tight squeeze if you all tried -- but if you know people who like comedy, Shakespeare, supporting the arts, or nubile young students, tell them to come see it. Please?
