One day, at work, one of the pastors of the church I attend here came in for a latte. We got to talking and it came out that I majored in English and theatre. Long story short: I am now writing the children's messages for the month of December. The pastors are doing an Advent study of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, and they wanted to do little sketches for the kids before they head down to Sunday School. Ideally, these sketches would tie in with the sermon to be preached, and would entertain the kids but also provide a jumping-off point for the message the adults would be hearing. In true studently form, I have put off the writing of these skits until the very last moment. Our read-through and casting is tomorrow night, and I still have two of the five to write. You can take the girl out of school...

It's exciting, though. I've kinda been feeling like all I do is work and come home and watch TV, so this is a chance for me to get out into the community a little bit, to do something that I love (both the writing and the directing of these scenes) and to put on my theatre resume as job experience. Plus, Narnia. How cool is that?

In other news: a week ago, a new posting went up for a shift supervisor at my store, and I jumped all over that. That extra buck every hour will add up; I may even be able to afford Christmas presents for my family! I had a performance review yesterday, and basically my manager thinks I am all kinds of awesome, so I was given a tiny wee raise, which should help in the paying-rent-and-OSAP-and-also-eating area of my life, so. I think I'm going to be alright. Yay!
