It's very rare that Cordelia actually gets dressed any more. Negligee and high heels have made up most of her wardrobe for the last few months. She's turning into an eccentric recluse, and the media of her world is eating it up ( Read more... )

The paths on the island retreat are still neatly trimmed and maintained, but there's still subtle air of disuse about the place. Alexis's private study, where Cordy portals into, still has some of the furnature under wraps. However, there's a battered rucksack on the desk, partly open, and leather bound journal next to the empty brandy glass.

"It's good to see you Cordelia." Alexis says from the doorway behind her...

He's more tanned than she remembers, thinner too. But there's something else different about him, something in the way he moves, his attitude, his smile. He seems, more alive, stronger somehow but relaxed. Like a man who's fought and made peace with the world, and himself.

Then he's crossed the short distence, and he's holding her in his arms once again, just, holding her for a few moments.

Cordelia, too, is thinner than she was. Almost worryingly so, actually. She's paler, too, as if she hasn't spent much time in the sun any more -- left over from her days as a vampire, she supposes. She carries herself differently, there's less of the arrogance of strength.

Because, and this is almost obvious in the way she practically clings to him, hiding her face against his shoulder, Cordelia Chase is not a Slayer any more.

"Hi, Alexis," she murmurs, muffled.

"Missed you Cordelia... more than I imagined I would. I know things went wrong between us, and that didn't help. I was never very tolerant of failure, especially in myself."

Alexis continues holding her, one had on her waist, the other stroking her hair.

"But I've changed, and evidently so have you... a lot's happened to us in the interim. If you think it possible, could we start over? I know I have other unresolved situations still, and I'll have to see what I can do about those. But I'm assuming it would be alright with you if we start out as at least friends, and take it from there..."

Alexis can't help wondering as he speaks, just how much is she listening at the moment, and how much she can take. He's noticed that she seems more, fragile. Not just the absence of slayer strength, that subtle sense of her holding back is gone, but there's this vibe of emotional fragility that he's never felt from her before.

Cordelia pulls back just a little, and reaches up to cover his hand in her hair. Her expression is hard to read. Frankly, the woman looks like she needs to eat something and get a decent night's rest.

Emotional fragility is something altogether new for Cordelia, but her health has been worrisome for a while now. "I...I...a lot has happened," she agrees, finally. "I just..." She's trying to find a way to say this that doesn't sound like a desperate plea for him to love her again. "Can't fuck it up and lose you again."

Alexis smiles slightly...

"Whatever else Cordy, you won't lose me again. I dont know where our relationship stands as of now, or where it will go. But this much I can promise, I will be there for you when you need me."

He studies her for a moment, and then sighs..
"and you look like you need looking after Cordy, you're rail-thin and you look like you're riding the ragged edge of exhastion... God knows, I know what that's like having half worked myself half to death before now."

"I've been working hard," she admits, one hand rubbing at her temples. "It's been...I've been busy. Too busy to take care of myself, I suppose." She forgets meals and has a tendency to fall asleep in her study, late at night (or early in the morning, really). Her neglect of herself has done her no favours, that much is clear.

"I've been...putting myself back together, since my resurrection. I just haven't been doing that great a job of it."

Alexis smiles slightly, with a bitter edge.

"Yes I'm somewhat familiar with that... mayhap I can help."

"I wouldn't turn it down," she says, a part of her lost in her memories. She shakes herself out of it, cocking her head to one side. "My solution lately has generally involved ridiculous amounts of alcohol and cigarettes. I'm open to suggestions." There's an unhappy twist to her smile.
