Personality: If Angela Orosco was to be summed up in three words, they would be "unstable", "pitiful" and "frightened". Her most easily noticeable trait would be her mood swings. She goes quite easily from paranoid to angry, from soft and thoughtful to screaming panic. James encounters her several times across the game and each time is a different, wild-ride of chaotic emotions. When he first meets her, she seems peaceful, if a little nervous and shy. She hesitates in her speech and says odd things. She's also prone to rambling. She warns him away from Silent Hill despite her own visitation there. When he insists, she simply shrugs him off and goes back to studying the graves. Angela does appear to be on edge; when she refers to her mother as "mama", she acts frightened and quickly corrects it to "mother", as if she's expecting to be hit. Her words do come across as a little childish for her age.

The next time they meet, she's far less nervous - at least at first. He encounters her contemplating suicide with her knife, lying in front of a mirror. Although they discuss the serious issues of it, she mocks him for being too afraid to take the step himself. Her bitter sarcasm swiftly changes to suspicion when he assumes her mother lived in Silent Hill since she's looking here for her there, but softens to calm. She offers James the knife, stating she's afraid of what she'll do if she keeps it, but when he goes to take it she seems to mentally regress. She screams and panics, holding the knife as if to attack and pleads for forgiveness before throwing the knife down and running. It appears that thanks to her past, she is particularly distrustful of men.

Angela appears to be a highly introverted person judging from her style of clothing and speech patterns. While she will speak to others out of pure loneliness, she feels as if she deserves to be punished and expects to be at any given time. She seems to have become somewhat isolated due to her past and never mentions being close to anyone but her family - despite what happened with them. However, there is an undercurrent of anger within her. When he later saves her from a monster that takes its form from her past (the Abstract Daddy) she violently assaults the lifeless creature afterwards before breaking down and becoming ill. She rejects James' attempts at comfort, shrinking from his touch and verbally assaulting him, claiming him to be only trying to befriend her just so he can get into her pants. It becomes rather clear at that point just how much she has come to fear men. While it may not be outright hate, she clearly views them in a negative light.

At the burning staircase is the last place they meet. She mistakes James for her mother and makes note of the fact that her brother is likely already dead. After realising it isn't her, she tries to recover her knife, intent on making use of it, but when he refuses she tells him he should not have saved her, claiming her mother was right. That she deserved everything. And she disappears into the flaming staircase after confirming that her own personal Silent Hill was a place of fire - representing her hellish life and the blame she places upon herself. She is never seen again.

It is clear from the start that Angela is mentally unstable. She is never seen interacting with anyone except James, but those interactions make it quite clear that she is set on a path of self-hatred and despair for her actions. Her murder of her father clearly stirs both guilt and rage. The fact that she ran away in the first place, however, is a clear indicator that she had not been quite so self-punishing prior to his death. It is clear, however, that she had enough terror in her to kill her father - most likely with the knife she carries around with her. Her social awkwardness and distrust of men make it difficult for her to communicate - although it appears that as the game goes on she begins to care far less. Even as early as the second time they meet, she becomes sarcastic and talkative - although after James mentions the wife he's looking for is dead she becomes far more nervous and tries to excuse herself.

She seems to know more about Silent Hill than she lets on, although not much; she expresses disbelief that James could be lost and mentions that there's something wrong with the town. Although she cannot put it into words, it appears right at the start that Angela is well aware of the danger. She seems suspicious of his motives for being there, especially after she finds out that Mary - James' wife - is dead. It appears that she is not very brave; she is constantly encouraging James to run away - and even to kill himself, as it would be easier. It's also noticeable that her photo of her family is torn in half - with herself on her mother's side and her father's image torn away. From this it can be taken that Angela's anger is only towards her father. Despite the fact that she states her mother not only knew about what her father was doing but claimed she deserved it, she appears to be fond of her mother.

Her style of speech is slow and drawling, interjected with apologies. At times she sounds

Strengths/Weaknesses: Angela is clearly not the combat-heavy type. Her only weapon is a knife, which she gives to James, and the only time you see her dealing with an enemy it is one that James is needed to dispatch. The only time you see her use the knife as if in combat, she holds it in a very awkward, untrained manner and then proceeds to drop it and run away.

She appears to be unafraid of fire - despite the fact that the Otherworld around her is constantly aflame, she does not react to it at all. Angela states that it's always like that, perhaps indicating that she had developed this lack of fear over time. She appears to be a fast running and despite her small stature appears to be rather strong. She easily lifts a large television and throws it onto the head of the deceased Abstract Daddy. This, however, might appear to be adrenaline. She is more prone to running away than fighting

It becomes clear fast that she is distrustful of men and very dependant - she seeks out her mother in order to ask her to take care of her.

Samples

First Person Sample:

...It keeps crying.

[The voice is quiet and halting. Angela speaks slowly, drawing out her words a little longer than usual. She sounds exhausted.]

This creature... the... the file says it's crying for its Momma. Is there... something I can do? I can't sleep.

[Not that she wants to. Sleeping means dreaming and even if the fire's gone and he's gone that doesn't mean her mind will let them be gone. She draws in a slow sigh. In the background, the pitiful melody of the Cubone echoes.]

Is anyone even out there?

Third Person Sample:

The tree bark felt rough on her back even through her clothing. Angela leant back against the tree and stared up at the sky with vacant eyes.

Was this the afterlife?

That was the most pressing question. She had known from the start that if she didn't find Mama she wasn't coming back. That place... it was too dangerous. Too hot, and too deadly. Slowly, she shifted, leaning over to grasp her pack. That odd little hand-held computer had given her some useful information on the... thing that kept following her at least. It was creepy- and yet oddly adorable. She wasn't too fond of the skull it seemed to wear, but the creature - the Cubone - had reacted badly to her attempts to remove it. In the end it had just been easier to let it be.

She absently pressed buttons at random, not really looking to see what they did. If this was the afterlife, it wasn't so bad. Maybe it was another hallucination brought on by that place. Maybe it was a fever dream. Did it really matter? The truth was, no matter what it was, she was still trapped here. She wasn't sure whether that was a good thing or a bad one. Angela was quite certain that there was danger here. Even if this place was free from fire, that didn't mean it was free from everything else. The world was a dark and dangerous place - and she didn't have Mama to strive for any more. That was the worst of it. Without an aim, without that hope, what was left? Someone wicked and sinful like her didn't deserve either but she wanted them, needed them-

-and now they were gone. Was there anything left? Anything to hope for at all? The Cubone roughly nuzzled her hand, which had since stilled, and she glanced down at it. Maybe it could help her find out what was going on. She had already found out some disturbing similarities between the two of them. It seemed the creature was as lonely as she was. "...we should keep going. It's not safe to stay out here at night. Maybe- maybe we can find a place to rest before nightfall," she decided, awkwardly rising to her feet. Her legs felt shaky and she had to use the tree for support until the numbness from sitting had faded. It was time to go. Time to follow the yellow brick road - although the road didn't seem to be very yellow or brick. There was no way she was staying back in that tiny place. As it was, the sheer number of people there had frightened her until she fled the city walls. It had been a type of chaos she couldn't handle.

Maybe she could camp outside the city and just go in for supplies. That was a good idea, although it needed work. It certainly wouldn't do if the weather turned bad. And then-

-what was she doing?

Her hands grabbed for the pack, stuffing the Pokègear into it hurriedly before slinging it over her shoulder and hurrying off, casting a nervous glance down the empty road behind them. Someone could have found her while she was sitting there, thinking of nothing and wouldn't that be wonderful? With her luck it would be the wrong sort of person, just as she deserved. At least over the 'gear she could sound people out, try to figure out what it was they wanted from her. They had to want something after all. It was the way the world worked.
