Over the past year, I've been considering moving to a remote location in northern North America. Lately, Alaska has been of great interest to me as a place to settle, but the prospect of moving and finding satisfying work is immensely daunting. I've been scouring the virtual world for remote cabins and the like, and have been pleased with the resulting sites. Apparently, one can purchase 10 acres of pristine wilderness and a small cabin for $50,000. Not bad.
My current location in rural Ohio has shown me what it means to live quietly, happily, and simply. I'm more content and at ease here than I think I've ever been in my life. My daily activities are centered upon walking outdoors -- something that isn't especially pleasant in many parts of the country these days due to heat, overpopulation, and pollution.
Perhaps above all, I'm simply outraged at those who live so conspicuously in nature. Quite a few residents of Florida, where I formerly lived, choose to live in such a way, which is why I think I have become prematurely cynical. I don't think I've seen anything more heinous and disturbing in my life than one of Florida's many tract housing shitholes, replete with monstrous vehicles.
I hope I work these plans out soon...
