Seems I have not yet done my obligatory first day of school post.
Right, so, this semester promises to kick my ass. Graphic design teacher said so straight up front. So, yes. Here's hoping I don't die. First day we were assigned a client for which we are going to design logos and stationary. I got one of the few real ones, which is Fossil Rim. It's a wild life park around here somewhere, I haven't been there in years. They've got antelopes and ostriches and all that good stuff. You drive through and can feed them and stuff. Yep. We also got a book to read, our final project is apparently another poster deal. The book would be made into a movie and we do posters. Mine's Kite Runner. It doesn't look particularly interesting to me, but hell, what do I know, I read fantasies and classics. I can think of two or three others that were given out that I would rather read, but what can you do.
Color rendering is supposedly much less stressful, but I'm doing something painful for that class already. I am to turn a badly photocopied photograph into an engraving style drawing. I start with
Ringo Starr. And I'm
still working. Best part? Due tomorrow. Yaaay. I don't THINK I'll be up all night. (EDIT: I don't think this really needs a background! I call that done. x_x) Still, everything in this class is going to be representational. I'm happy. I've missed that.
Japanese...looks like it will be more or less as annoying as last semester. Now the teacher insists points will be docked if we do not check our own homework with the key in the language lab. Riiight, I TOTALLY have time for that. Sorry, but no. Besides, isn't checking work what the teacher is for? I have been studying my kanji over the past couple days, though. Like, from the beginning, going through my brother's textbook. Now if only I could find a good way to learn the damn vocabulary...ugh.
Figure drawing will probably end up being my best, and most useful class. Yay for FINALLY getting into it. No outside work, I get to draw people, and it should help a lot with my normal art. I need to find a decent anatomy book, I'm going to try to go spin around Fort Worth this weekend. Sure, the class lasts, oh, three hours, but it doesn't meet on Fridays. Which means, tomorrow, I get out right after Japanese ends at 1:50.
Soo today. I wandered around Hurst. Went to the mall and...ended up buying two more calendars because they were $3. I gave the Pirates of the Carribean one to my mom, and I now have two calendars hanging up on my wall, but I flipped the FMA one ahead to February. XD;; I like my new Hellsing one much better, of course, I like Hellsing better than FMA. :D; I can't wait for the OVA. It...supposedly comes out next month? And Rip Van Winkle is in it. Fwee. :3 Uhh...came dangerously close to buying gay manga, as they were buy 3 get 4th free at Waldenbooks...but I pulled myself away from spending 30+ dollars on manga. I for some reason couldn't find the book I'm supposed to read there, I think I must not have been looking hard enough, as it was on the best-sellers shelf at Barnes & Noble. I also found one of the anatomy books the teacher recommended there, but I thought I'd check the two Half-Price Books stores in Fort Worth first. I'm...kinda cheap. But I also told Steph I'd look around for a Japanese children's book for her to translate, so.
Anyway, I'm rambling too much, and I'm sure nobody's gonna actually READ all that crap, so I need to just shut up and get back to Ringo Starr. I want to take a hot bath, though, I've been majorly sore since yesterday. T__T Too bad, and besides, the only tub is in mom's bathroom, so I'd have to go clean that out to do that, but I'm very much tempted to do so after school tomorrow. I have much ouch.
Right. Homework. Gahh, the lines! D:
