I don't normally watch WWE Monday nights (it's on cable-- I only have local channels), but they were filming in what's I guess the nearest big town to me tonight, (I coulda been there if I'd bothered to try getting tickets) and it was the return of Bret "The Hitman" Hart-- and of course, the confrontation with "Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels.   So I've been staring at my computer, trying to will my dial-up to load the clips of tonight's show faster.

Gotta say, I love Bret Hart.  He was a great, talented wrestler and some of his matches are the best in the world to watch.  I also love Shawn Michaels.  He's got charisma and energy, and he's done so many wild groundbreaking things because I don't think he's ever backed down when he thought something would make a good show, even if it was dangerous or made him look like an idiot.  I've never seen the big match where they had a huge meltdown (the infamous 'Montreal Screwjob' of 1997) but apparently they secretly didn't like each other backstage, then publicly didn't like each other since then.

But they talked about how much they disliked each other, and how they've changed in the past 12 years, and how they just want to get over it and call a truce.  And they shook hands, and I'm waiting for any minute one of them to attack the other, but they don't.  Then Shawn starts to walk away and I think Bret will attack any minute now.  Then Shawn turns and starts to come back and I think Shawn's gonna attack any minute now.  But they don't-- they just hug.   And I know it's all scripted, but it just hit all the right notes.

So I watch the crowd and see if I see anyone I know, and I rerun the video (even though it's a terrible quality video-- need to find better later) to catch all the scripted awesomeness.  I really don't know why they bother writing some of their storylines-- I bet there's way more interesting stuff going on backstage than anyone admits.   And I am just intrigued.  This is like all my guilty pleasure soap operas rolled into one with a good dollop of eye candy just for fun :)  Love it!

As a final note though-- Seriously, Bret?  Way to dress for the occasion, with your dweeby Cena shorts and glasses that aren't even your trademark glasses and your jacket is missing the epauletes.  Lame.
