So I chatted with someone about the position opening up here and, basically, I'm qualified, except for the minor detail that I failed the copyediting test.

(Note to self: Don't apply for copyediting jobs when you can't copyedit.)

And the person I spoke to was super-nice about it (I knew that she'd be cool and honest, so I was okay with asking her about it) and she said that they'd love to have me but I'd have to take a course and re-take the test. Which I'm definitely willing to do-but all that is impossible in the next two weeks, haha

But I have a goal now. When I get back from my staycation, I'm going to look into classes again. And the company will pay for it, which is a big plus. The last time I took a copyediting course, it was six years ago and I was more concerned with finishing my degree than actually learning anything. (ha ha, higher education.) But maybe if I pay attention this time, I might absorb something.

It's all a bit intimidating, because I know how I am with grammar and whatnot, and what comes naturally to me isn't enough to be a copyeditor. I know jack about grammar rules; I just know what sounds right. And, hey, we'll see. I'll take the course, and if I'm ripping out my hair by the end of it we'll know that this may not be my chosen career path.

Never know until you try, right?
