As I was making breakfast this morning, Dad was watching a documentary on people who don't want to have children.

(Cue awkward conversation in 3, 2...)

And someone said that it's selfish when people don't want kids, and Dad wholeheartedly agreed. I tried to defend the other side, but of course the conversation ended with, "you'll change your mind later."

Whether or not I "change my mind" is not the point. I hate when people claims that childless couples are selfish. Isn't it worse to do something just because other people say you should? Because it's some kind of social norm? Isn't it worse to bear a child you're not 100% certain you want?

My sister is the only parent who I haven't fought over this with. She said, "If you don't want children, don't have them." Because she's logical. Some people want to be parents. Some people don't. This isn't a difficult concept. It's like I fail as a woman because I don't have a burning desire to be a mother.
