I volunteered for a college fair this evening. Here are the messages I would have sent twitter throughout the event, if I wasn't trying to look professional:
*So many teenagers. I'm going to die.
*First question is about sports. Typical.
*Check the time. It's only been 20 minutes. Help.
*What's with all the future PT majors?
The question I most answered: "How do you pronounce your school's name?"
Things I should have known but didn't: The GPA you need to get in (I made it up); required SAT scores (learned that off our promo materials); what sports we offer (tempting to answer, "you don't go to SU for sports"); we have a pre-med program.
The woman I was sharing a table with has been doing college fairs for eight years, so I copied her a lot. She said I could; it was cool.
But really, my most shining moment was when this big, beefy dad strolled up and said, "D 2 or 3?" How I knew that was about sports is beyond me. Even more impressive was the fact I knew the answer.
And I'm doing another one of these next month. In the words of Mrs. Wente, "Do you have 'sucker' written across your forehead?"
